I HATE rich people...

I want to post about this topic anonymously under a new profile since it is kind of controversial?

I have heard many people say they hate rich people. Some say all rich people are arrogant. Some say they feel entitled. Have also heard people talk about all the money they waste on expensive luxuries when they could be feeding the poor in third world countries.

Personally, I know some rich people who are the most arrogant people you have ever met. They think they own the world and everyone in it. I also know rich people who are extremely nice and would give you the shirt off their back. Before I was financially successful myself, I was about to lose my car and my house. A rich friend loaned me money and said pay me back whenever.

I do agree that a lot of rich people waste a lot of money. I know of a really wealthy guy that has a $1.5 million Ferrari. Crazy thing is this... he is too old to drive the dang thing. So it just sits in one spot and no one drives it. He has a son, but he will not let his son drive it for whatever reason. This $1.5 million piece of metal literally just sits there taking up space. That $1.5 million definitely could have been used in a less wasteful way.

At the same time, I also know a rich family where the most family members drive a Kia, though they could all drive Porsches if they chose.

How do you feel about rich people? Do you hate them all? Do you feel most of them carry themselves in a certain way?

I feel about rich people the same way I feel about everyone else: your attitude around me is what determines everything.

I suppose that's the result of my schooling. Outside of the hyper-rich pretty much all classes had their fair share of people in the system where I live so it's legitimately hard to get the impression people who have X amount of money act like Y when your being told otherwise by your own eyes that said groups don't act one way overall at all.

Plus it's not as though people who are middle or lower class don't have the same problem of wasting money on things they don't need/never use. Just look at how many people buy a fancy smartphone instead of a less expensive one that does everything they actually use it for but doesn't have the needless features they never touch. Or anyone who wastes money on a $200+ pair of running shoes despite the fact they aren't any better then 40$ ones from any random shoe store.

May as well put "How do you feel about black people?" or "How do you feel about Christians?" I feel no way about them. I'll make up my mind on a person by person basis.

Envious, but then - whatever.

I have plenty of other people that have better reason to be hated. Being rich isn't one of them.

Well, I do have quite a bit of envy of them. But other than that, judge them as they come.

Your thread title doesn't seem to make sense as you say you HATE (capitalized HATE) rich people and then say there are rich people you know who would give the shirt off their back to help someone. So do you hate them as well? Did your rich friend give you a loan and you smiled and thanked them while secretly mumbling "Fuck you rich asshole, I hate your kind"? Because the title of your thread and your own post seem to contradict each other...EDIT: Never mind; I evidently read it wrong

As to my opinion, rich people are just like everyone else; there's some super nice people and there's some who deserve to be shot into the sun via catapult. I'm not going to hold it against someone because they happen to be wealthy unless they do something that dictates being hated.

Would I love their money? Yeah, who wouldn't? But as people, I don't give a toss unless I ever speak to them in person. Basically, everyone's got a chance to be a pretty chill guy/women until proven guilty, rich or not.

As for spending 1.5million on a Ferrari and never driving it, I would 100% do the same thing if I could, just because I fucking could.

See I'm just envious of the rich. I know the phrase is 'Money doesn't buy happiness' but lets be honest, that's just what the rich tell poor people so they don't revolt.
I think its infinitely easier to find happiness when you're rich than make money when you're happy.
And before you go "Oh SilentPony, you smart sexy person you, if you're happy you don't need money!" just know that's bullshit. Because happiness doesn't buy food, water, pay bills, treat illness. Nothin'. And if you're sick, hungry, thirsty, and homeless I'm guessing you're not happy.

In fact, almost everything one could think of that makes them happy involves money to a degree. Family dinner? Well food, housing, clothing, drink, games, etc...money. Your significant other? Presumably you mean a date night, so dinner, movie, car, sexy lingerie, lube, shower, laundry etc...money.
Game night with the guys? Beer, housing, car, board games, clothing, pizza, teeth...money.

Hate to sound like that fucker from the Tom and Jerry movie, but life is a hell of a lot easier when you have money.

Hate the rich, sure. Hate them for their arrogance and whatnot. Hate Trump, Kanye, most of the Saudi Princes, arrogant Hollywood liberals, the Koch bros, Wallstreet. Hate them all! But lets not pretend money is some great evil and no one can possibly live the good life with large sums of it.

I don't hate all rich people... just the stuck up asshole ones. And maybe it's a bit of jealousy, especially seeing all those shows about rich women on TV.

He is addressing the statement "I HATE rich people" that he has heard from people, not stating that he hates rich people.

I have heard many people say they hate rich people...

I hate rich people that want to stay rich at the expense of those far less fortunate. Also I hate terrible people who are also rich because its a reminder that karma isn't real in the grand scheme of things.

I don't hate people just for having lots of money though. I know Id love to be one such person.

With great power comes great responsibility, and money is power.

If a poor person is reckless with their money they mostly harm themselves. If a rich person is reckless with their money it harms those around them, exponentially more so the more money they have. But even then it depends what kind of rich person you're talking about. An entrepreneur that started from the bottom or people like Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian? Of course as time goes on, launching yourself from the bottom into fortune gets harder and harder because the super-rich tend to have this "there's only room in this town for one of us" mentality.

I don't hate the rich, but their fortune is just that. A series of fortunate events that have resulted in them coming out on top. In that situation I think you're obligated to help out the less fortunate but of course the more popular thing to do is to attribute your success to skill instead. But what's even worse than that are the poor people that fall for their "I got where I am because I worked really hard" bullshit.

Actually studies show that money and happiness have a direct, positive correlation... for everyone below the poverty line. Above the poverty line, having money doesn't seem to make people significantly happier or unhappier. So basically, money can buy happiness if you don't have basic necessities like food and water. After that it's sort of a toss up.

From what I've heard (And don't quote me on this because I ain't a psychologist) it has to do with the hedonic treadmill, which basically means that your general life satisfaction will eventually return to a baseline "happiness" level once your life stabilizes and you get used to your luxuries, and the happiness sort of fades away.

Although I guess my larger problem with this line of thinking is that it's sometimes used to say "Well you're rich, so you're not allowed to have problems. Pity me! I'm poorer than you!" It assumes that the rich don't have issues and troubles of their own, and if they do then it's probably some minuscule point that no sane and rational person would actually get upset about. That doesn't sit right with me, you know? Rich people can be miserable too, money or no.

I don't see rich people as arrogant really. Just...ignorant of what it means to live on lower income. Quite a few might become arrogant. Heck, my uncle's side of the family is a bit condescending towards my own family. Think it 'weird' to say the least that I'm currently unemployed and my younger brother only has a part-time job. They're all way above the poverty line with high paying jobs. They're still all friendly though. Especially my uncle, his wife, and my nephew. Being in the position my own family is in is just...alien to them you could say. And people tend to judge things they're unfamiliar with worse than things they're familiar with. Human nature and all that.
