Back in 2004 or so, I got Xbox live. I didn't have anything better to do as a kid, so I picked up Counter Strike. I spent hours, days, Months racked up on it. Some fun times, I made a few friends who I have lost contact with today. I didn't know Xbox Original was shut down. I'm going to miss it.

Microsoft made this saturday a little worse.

You really lived underneath a rock, didn't you? The shutdown of Xbox Live orginal meant the demise of Halo 2. If you missed that uproar, you really haven't been keeping tabs on the gaming industry.

It's a shame and we do get a price hike as well. So have fun hating them even more!
Eh, I'm stopping with Xbox live. And I didn't know, I really took a large break from video games in that time.

How horrible! They shut down a service that <10% of their userbase was using!

...MONTHS ago!

...And it wrecked your Saturday now!

Excuse me while I try to understand... and fail.

... counterstrike... xbox?

what is this blasphemy, go play counterstrike 1.6. There are still hundreds of active servers and any computer built in the last ten years will have no problem running it.

Didn't lots of people keep their original Xboxs logged onto the Halo servers to they could keep playing it after they switched it off? And then they never turned their Xboxs off so they could keep playing? Or have I just been told lies?

I don't get this... they announced it ages and ages ago. They said they didn't want to.
But for Live to evolve they have to.

It was causing limitations.

And also... Hooray for opinions!

Don't know if it was original Xboxs...

But yeah. Like 400 people stayed on after the shutdown.

About a week later there was 21 people left.

I think the final guy quit about 4 weeks after shutdown.

Yeah it sucked, but on the other hand if you played it anytime in the month before it was taken down they gave you free 1600 MS points.

So I got 20 dollars in MS points for free.
