First off what is Dota about? And will it be worth me buying the game? And does the game look like the trailer? I really do like that style. Also should i get the first Dota to get used to the game and story?

There is no(t much) story to DotA, it's a multiplayer warcraft III map (mod).

I'd love to see how the community reacts if you join a game and ask what the story of the game is though, so yeah go and play the first just so you know what the kind of people that play DotA are like.

(Download League of Legends or Heroes of Newearth if you want to try the gameplay, they're both free to play and based off of DotA)

Dota doesn't really have a story. If you want to get used to Dota, I suggest you check out League of Legends. (Google it). It's a game based on Dota, and it's completely free. It isn't the exact same as Dota, but it will give you a taste of what to expect from it.

I would recommended going to google before posting on forums, because that would eliminate some of your questions. First, that the original Dota is not a game that you can buy, it is a mod for Warcraft 3 and distributed freely. Try watching some game play videos on youtube, that will give you an idea of how the game is played. The art style will be almost exactly as it looked in the trailer.

Dota 2 will most likely be F2P since its competitors(LoL, HoN) are. The first DotA is a mod for Warcraft III and it's only a single map so you should download it.

Gabe Newell has been quote as saying that they have not yet chosen a pricing structure.

DoTA (Defence of the Anchients) is a mod for Warcraft 3, its basicly a 5 v 5 RPG fight in a RTS style. You get minions constantly spawn in 3 lanes that charge forward to attack the enemy base and towers, while the enemy get the exact same minions. As champions you try to kill the minions and towers and push the lanes to the other home base. The enemy champions are trying to do the same.

This is a lil gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj81a2B0BRk

The first DoTA is UGLY, just to warn you, its also very much not noob friendly, there is no story to it at all, its purely Multiplayer matches. There is a story behind each champion I think, but I doubt many people know nor care about them!

And it will be free so worth a try. Though I'd recommend maybe giving League of Legends a go as its also free to play and is available now, it will give you a taste of the genre.

Scroll 2/3rds of the way to the bottom.

"We haven't actually decided on a payment model yet," Newell explained.

Don't make things up or jump to assumptions based on what the competition is doing.

That said, with payment model he could very well mean "How much we'll charge for hats in Dota 2", considering how TF2 is free nowadays too but... hats.

dotas great i've played it since it first came out :).

ANYWAY if you want first hand experience on what it's like without paying anything. go to www.leagueoflegends.com and it's basically the same game with a different look and slightly different, more rpg"y" mechanics. even made by one of the original dota creators
unless you already own warcraft 3 frozen throne, then just download the map from www.getdota.com and play it on battle.net :D
