Now before you jump down my throat about the topic title, it was used to get your attention, and if the moderators are opposed to it, I will change it.

What is up with this lately though? These horrible jokes that do nothing but demean women? I mean, I'm all for funny jokes, but these ones...after about the first two or three, I've had more than enough. It seems to be really sweeping the Facebook crowd and honestly, it has gotten really annoying. When women actually say that they dislike this stuff too, all of the guys jump down their throats about how they need to learn to just take a joke...and then make them a sandwich.

Is it just going too far sometimes? Or is it all in good fun? I'm sure a lot of these don't have anything behind them, but when is enough really just enough?

I think its more in tone with it almost being "socially acceptable" that these jokes are being thrown around in such a manner. I haven't seen any racist jokes or gay jokes being made into Facebook groups (which hit a large number of people) yet.

This. If people grew thicker skin or simply realized words don't hurt you, no one would bother harping on it anymore, as it wouldn't get the reaction they wanted.

I think certain genres of jokes just go in and out of style. For a while everyone was telling Chuck Norris jokes. Now the world has moved on to making fun of women. Then there's the racist jokes and dirty jokes and whatever else is out there. It'll end sooner or later just to be replaced by something else.

It's all about shock, crude humour. The humour is in the shock of saying something that would not be considered socially acceptable (depends on the society but whatever). The joke in the thread title is funny because when done well the humour is in the surprise twist to sexism not the actual "lolololololol women should be in the kitchen" part. They will fade away like the "what do you call a black person... " jokes did and any other variety of shock humour does.

I rarely hang out with any of those people anyway. Besides, they don't bother me enough to end a friendship of any level, since I'm not a woman. I'm just curious as to why these jokes exploded onto the scene.
