I like games with disturbing imagery. I play on PC. Got any suggestions of what to play? (updated)

Having just played through Clive Barker's Jericho, I am reminded of my love for games with weird, creepy, and horrific shit to look at. The game kinda sucked, but the story in that game was pretty damn good, and there was a lot of messed up stuff to check out. Now, since I play on PC, I understand that my game choices are limited, but I figured someone out there has some good suggestions for me. The game doesn't have to be scary or anything, by the way.

I have played all of those except for Five Nights. Most, sadly, did not give me what I was looking for, although the metro games came kinda close.

The forest kinda worked for me, but the environment didn't help at all.

Amnesia and Penumbra were a little too spooky, not enough unsettling things around, though Penumbra came kinda close.

Max Payne was weird, but not really what I was looking for. Still fun though.

Killing Floor's gameplay style didn't really give me time to enjoy the monsters and anything else going on. Still play it a lot though.

Don't Starve, while fun, didn't really draw me in.

Hotline Miami just made me laugh. A lot. Fun game.

Isaac was good, but like Don't Starve, didn't really draw me in.

The suffering kinda worked, but didn't really have enough oomph. Not sure how to explain it better.

Thanks for your suggestions though! Not even sure where to get Five Nights right now. Can't seem to find it's website.

It's not really a game - it's a Japanese visual novel: Song of Saya. It has some of the most disturbing imagery, audio and text I ever experienced.

I believe PC is the best platform for the kind of game you're asking for. With that in mind, here is "I have no mouth and I must scream", according to those who have played it, a truly fucked-up game in its own right. Available on Steam.

Also perhaps your style, Outlast. I've seen a let's play of it, and it's kinda messed up, but it relies a lot on jump scares and its scary, lunatic asylum setting. Also available on Steam, your friendly neighbourhood money grabber.

I really wanted that game to be better. I would love to see short, $10 games made that capture the feel of good horror stories. Imagine Barker's Midnight Meat train or Lovecraft's The Thing on the Doorstep as playable stories. You should try Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It's pretty old, but I played it a lot back in the day and still have to play it every now and again for nostalgia sake. Fatal Frame set some good tension, but wasn't disturbing per se. Condemned 1 and 2 fits more in line with your Deadspace style of horror, but grounded in people doing horrible things instead of crazy zombie, alien, whatever the hell those things in deadspace are. I thought Outlast did a pretty good job of creeping me out too.

i heard saya's song (Saya no Uta) is beyond fucked up, its one of those japanese visual novels and yes it does have some sex scenes, but aparently the amount of psychotic shit going on is off the charts

basically, you are some dude who suffered a head injury in a car accident in which your parents also died, ever since then, due to the injury you see the entire world as this twisted version of itself, the wikipedia articles describes it like this

"He perceives the world as a hellish nightmare with a black sky and buildings covered in pulsating flesh, where all the streets and building interiors are splattered with blood, giant organs and cartilage. Ordinary people appear to him as grotesque, giant grub-like monsters with a hideous stench, and even food that he used to like now tastes utterly disgusting"

starting to contemplate suicide, you find a girl at the hospital, the only normal looking girl in your nightmarish version of the world, so you can pretty much figure out what she must be in real life, and from that point on, shit REALLY hits the fan

No Spec Ops: The Line? I'm sure it will be on sale on Steam at some point this summer, pick it up. It's an outright condemnation of your standard Call of Duty style military shooter, 's really interesting. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if it disturbed some people enough that they stopped buying COD-like games after playing. It gave me the final push over the edge to ignore them entirely even and i'm hard to disturb. To be honest, I always had an inkling that something was morally wrong with those games but could never put my finger on it. Spec Ops addresses those concerns accurately, directly and perfectly.

And there's always Call of Cthulhu. You can get both on Steam for less than $15 total. They're not really gory though.

Never mind. There seems to be a collection of bugs with Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I had good memories of it from XP days, but getting it to run today seems like a huge hassle.

It's mostly just a slightly above average shooter with some spooky elements, and a cliffhanger ending that doesn't explain very much. Yeah, that's the one thing that puzzles me when people say they were too scared to play F.E.A.R. in general, which isn't a criticism of people who say that. In terms of atmosphere though, F.E.A.R. 2 has a good vibe I think. That is, until you're in a boss fight against a giant robot, or piloting one yourself. I would suggest the earlier F.E.A.R. games but the modeling leaves a bit to be desired. And for some reason I do like the indoor parts of the earlier games.

I have good memories of Call of Cthulhu though, although that game is...what's the best word for the palette? Muddy. That game is muddy, but it has a great feeling of dread.

Whew! Okay, quite a few suggestions here! Lemme take a look...

Song of Saya looks interesting and right up my ally for weird-ass shit going on. I guess it's also a porn game? But whatever, it looks fun.

Outlast was on my original list

I've played Call of Cthulhu, it was interesting.

Condemned was okay, but a bit annoying to play. Second wasn't as good, sadly.

Played the Cat Lady, Harvester was fun, Bit too much gore and not enough "What the hell am I looking at?" for me though. Made me chuckle a couple times however. (Calling THAT a suicide. I lost it.)

Spec Ops: The Line was an interesting game. I don't much enjoy war shooters, but that one was sorta fun. Didn't really bother me as much as everyone told me it would, which was disappointing.

The FEAR series was already in my original list, but I did enjoy FEAR 2. That was the only one of the three I liked, really.

The White Chamber was also really fun, it surprised the hell out of me.

Whistleblower was great. I tend to prefer supernatural WTF and hellish landscapes, but that one was friggen great, and even made me somewhat uncomfortable.

Bunker 16, Knock-knock, and Finger bones were all interesting.

Played Pathologic, it kept glitching and breaking, so I couldn't get too far.

Downfall was fun, but made no lasting impression.

Corpse Party was fun. Bit too short though. Loved the music, sadly don't have a PSP for the longer edition.

Dragon age origins has some parts (the deeproads and that part with the mages) that look pretty focked up. If I remember correctly the expansion is even better in this area.
I can also recommend the Metro games. especialy the first one

OT: "Dark Seed" and "Dark Seed II" are kind of crap, but they more than deliver in the "disturbing imagery" department. The first game actually had H. R. Giger himself on board.
