Just listen to this right here:

Ah, that really takes me back. So, Escapists, what pieces have you discovered recently that have stirred your heart and rekindled your love for the piano?

Piano stuff I like (that I can think of right now anyway!) -

From Battlestar Galactica episode Valley of Darkness:

That makes me think of Erik Satie:

And how about Kanade Tachibana from Angel Beats at the piano to finish:

It always amazes me what people can transcribe, and then have the dexterity to play.

Here's a good one. Dude in this video is a master of piano.

EDIT

And this by the same guy (he has a bunch I am currently browsing)

Just so good

Piano renditions of songs, especially Game, Movie and TV soundtracks, I always love.

There's just something about the sound of a Piano and the person playing it that just adds some extra humanity to it for me. Makes songs much more emotional when done right.

I played the piano right up until the end of secondary school. Also played the violin, but the difference was that when I played the piano, I wasn't accused of strangling a cat (and truth be told, my actual cat at the time didn't like it either).

I'm personally more of an acoustic/electric guitar guy when listening, depending on my mood. And a drummer while playing. A good electric guitar can send chills through my entire body. Can't say I have the same with the piano. Though indeed piano can sound quite beautiful when played by someone really good at it.

Definitely from listening to Nujabes... albeit the piano isn't the only instrument in play... but, it does stand out to me when I hear it...
Other than that, this thread did remind me of the Piano Collections: Kingdom Hearts: Field & Battle...

Fair enough.

This is my favourite currently.

Yes, it's wrestling related, sorry. It's still amazing. 2IlwMhYlJZs[/youtube]

Recently? Nothing, unfortunately.
But there is one piece that I always listen to when I want to relax or calm down.

Sleep Away by Bob Acri.

I love piano. I wanted to learn how to play it, but my fingers are dumb and crude. No matter how much I practiced I never even approached "kind of okay" at it.

Bit of an obvious choice, but they're lovely pieces in the middle of an incredibly diverse and intense electronica album, and notable for how Aphex mic'd the pianos:

You could also link to some Erik Satie, given that's the minimalist piano ballpark Aphex was working within.

Thomas Newman's score for Road To Perdition features the piano (as does the film itself, in one great scene [https://youtu.be/60J7_sNbHBU?t=50s]) quite heavily:

And two with vocals, courtesy of Tori Amos:

Can't find a single upload of the album version, but here's the gorgeous Marianne [https://youtu.be/ErccRh9DGcg?t=19m25s] from the same album.

Ugh. I'd almost forgotten how much I fucking hate posting gifs to convey emotion on the internet. Thanks for the reminder.

Anyway, this one's not very recent, but it's absolutely heart-melting nonetheless. A worthy adaptation of one of the greatest video game tunes ever. I'm practicing it right now, though a much simpler version than the one here.

To be honest I'm not a fan of the solo piano. However the mighty organ is a powerful instrument

That game had even better music than its predecessor. I loved that track in particular. I must go back and finish it one of these days, and revel in the wonderful steampunk atmosphere of Pirata.

I'm kinda surprised no one has linked possibly the most classic and iconic piano piece to date.

Even having heard this piece a million times I still love it.
