I will link to that since I would be walking on egg-shells posting that code in this forum.

Wild West forum: Test Post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/706.947620-test-post]

Wild West forum: I fucked up The Escapist Forums coding [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/706.947621-I-fucked-up-The-Escapist-Forums-coding]

There is no malware or anything dangerous in these web pages.

I have no knowledge of coding I literally just copy-pasted a bit of code from the website into this box I am typing into right now.

I have also broken no rules as the Wild West forum has no rules and The Escapist allows users to type coding into this box.

I'll allow it.

Since I am able to alter the site's code, that must mean I am a mod after all. :^)

I would be very careful if I was you Epyc, while you're right that the Code of Conduct does not apply to the Wild West, the general Terms of Use [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/termsofuse] of the site do still apply, including:

Any conduct by End User that in DEFY MEDIA's discretion restricts or inhibits any other End User from using or enjoying the Site will not be permitted.
There is also a specific prohibition on malicious code. So I can't promise the staff will look kindly upon this.

Shame then that it takes the staff 2 months to respond to official reports/messages.

...Unless you yourself have some way of 'fast tracking' this issue to the right person, of course.

It's not malicious if I am copy-pasting it directly from the site's own coding and people are still able to post in the thread.

If at their discretion they want to ban a user for experimenting and successfully exposing faults in the site's coding without actually causing any problems beyond making really interesting threads in a forum for experimental weird threads, then they can go right ahead and make themselves look bad to their core audience because they punished someone for experimenting without actually causing anyone any problems.

I'm not breaking any rules, and if their opinion, is the only basis for removing me rather than an actual real rule or need to protect the userbase beyond "lol my opinion is duh rules" then, that would be very poor site management and would ultimately in the long-run lead to site stagnation due to the unethical closed-minded outlook one would have to have to act in that manner.

I do not believe it likely they would be so awful, so I naturally post as a carefree users enjoying the Wild West as I should. But just know, that if they should ever prove that awful, that the userbase would not stand for it. At the very least, I hope the userbase would not submit itself to needless bureaucratic censorship or banning of users that favor freedom and experimentation.

And as for you, I am mad at you now. You, as a moderator, rather than praising a user's creativity, instead warn against it. You could not so much as applaud the fact I point this out so future people do not use this coding as a means of destroying the site nor could you applaud this unique way of bending the fabric of forum reality. You could stand to warn me in a way that doesn't convey "I'm uncomfortable with you being different."

The more surprising part is that you probably mean this too.

It's pretty damn neat that the site turned into a cluster fuck after doing that, but the problem is that it's affecting the page's ability to work properly. Whatever you did messed up the code pretty bad it seems. It's not a matter of "creativity" or "you being different." It's messed up the section entirely, and such code could be used to potentially exploit things further.

Granted, the right way to go about this for mods and even the users would probably be closer to "Oh shit, that's a pretty bad exploit. I should mention this to staff right away!" due to page/code/security concerns and not "muh creativity"

Don't take it personally, I find this experimentation very interesting myself, I just genuinely have no idea whether the staff will be okay with it or not.

If you find exploits and holes like that you should really just tell the staff instead of making it public. It's not cool to fuck around with the site like that, it's basically vandalism.

Oh look. He's gone and done a thing I've seen people do to forums like 20 years ago because they got angry with the users, the forum owner, and life in general.

Ah, the Wild West has no rules so... you've posted it into a completely different forum that does have rules? I feel your brilliant plan may have a flaw there.

Also I can't help but think that this is less 'breaking the Escapist Forums' and more a case of 'copy-pasted a known exploit of html coding', but ehhh, I can't go into Wild West to begin with, I don't give a fuck.

(Cross-quoting this here, because the code in the other thread has become so corrupted and screwy that I can't seem to post in it right now.)

That said I can imagine the Escapist staff are frantically trying to stop this as we all know someone somewhere will want to use this exploit for nefarious deeds.
The Escapist staff aren't frantically trying to do anything of the sort. There's no one still employed here who can write/edit the site code.
Not only that, but the main guy left in charge doesn't read his messages.

I meant they'd be frantic because they don't have anyone who knows how to fix this problem, although you may probably be right that they might not have actually noticed yet.

Oh, in that case consider this my resume, if any of you mods want to forward this to The Escapist's admins for a coding position.

Tell them I am very good at copying and pasting the best codes from The Internet and even though I technically don't know much code, I more than make up for it with my ability to copy and paste high quality codes I don't know how to make but have a good-looking end result.

By the Omnissiah!

Wynn is going to become the Escapist's new tech team as he clearly knows what he's doing more than the current (none-existent) tech team. He's probably willing to be payed in memes as well so they'll definitely hire him.
