I need a good joystick. Damn it gog!

Star wars tie fighter is now on gog. This is an excuse to buy a joystick. I do love space games so it is not impossible that this could be used in an x3ap combat run. I know I own some flight simulators but have not played them due to the lack of the flight stick.

What do you use? What think is a good one for x3 and tie fighter? And for you crazy people, what is the baddest of them all?

I use a Saitek x52pro. Plenty of buttons, toggle switches, 2 different axis wheels for trim in traditional airplanes, programmable buttons with three different 'modes'. I couldn't ask for a better flight system. I think anything more would be too much.

BUT HOLY HELL. forget that price tag. Going with something wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper. Saitek is apparently the apple of pc gaming peripherals, soo expensive on all their items.

Actually, for a HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) setup the x52pro is reasonably priced. The Thrustmaster Warthog runs near to twice the cost. If you dont want to spend mad bank, forget a HOTAS setup. If you want a decent, value for money stick look at the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

To be honest back in the day when I was playing X-Wing and Tie-Fighter I had a logitech joystick that was designed for the contour of a right handed player... I learned to live with it. Grabbed it from storage, but even with a USB adapter I couldn't get it to work. Probably damage from the humidity in Florida mixed with the heat of the storage unit. SO a new joystick is the way to go.

Heck, I had teachers in school try to "train me to be right handed" until they realized it was useless. Probably why I can handle the right handed stuff if it's simple.

Glad I was shown Saitek sticks, I don't have a lot of desk space and some of the joysticks were just too big, especially for alternating hands.

Do gamepads work for X-Wing and TIE Fighter? I have a good logitech gamepad so if they can work I might be able to survive on that until I get my joystick.

oh yeah, if I get some extra cash laying around someday, I would LOVE a dedicated setup on the side for freespace 2 and many other sims like that.

Do gamepads work for X-Wing and TIE Fighter? I have a good logitech gamepad so if they can work I might be able to survive on that until I get my joystick.

They'll work but you won't be able to map all the buttons you need to them, so you will occasionally have to reach over to the keyboard, which is less inconvenient with a joystick than a pad.
