NWN never caught me.. i dont why or what, but those games never stuck with me. amd knights of the old republic... you can call me what you want, but i cant enjoy star wars themed stuff, i have some chronic hatred for it or something i cant explain it but i just cant enjoy it. and Grandia II.. never heard of it "go's surfing"

edit: what part of i dont like JRPG's did you not understand... ?

Knights of The Old Republic is a must-play. Baulder's Gate and Neverwinter Nights are both pretty good. I personally find the user interface in Baulder's Gate irritating, but as far as I can tell I am the only person in the entire world with that problem. Neverwinter Nights can be down right boring at times, but overall the game is worth a play-through. I also recommend Chrono Trigger for the SNES. It's technically a JRPG, but the Japiness is very limited, and it's really really good. You have no whiny main character, no long drawn out cut scenes, and a welcome variant on the normal turn-based style of combat. Then again, I have this major hard on for SNES RPGs, so if you're used to playing computer RPGs, you may not enjoy it as much. Look at Hellgate: London if you liked Diablo. I know it didn't get very good editorial reviews, but a lot of people I used to play Diablo with claim it's amazing. I've never played NVN2, but I've heard it's less D&D-y than the first Neverwinter Nights, but has a better story.

Arcanum is a corking little game, set in a fantasy world which is undergoing an industrial revolution. Plenty of replayability, with about six different races (human, half-orc, etc) to choose from. The only problem is that once you get past about level 25 the difficulty completely drops off and you can pretty much trounce anything that comes your way, up to and including the final boss. It also follows the Fallout scheme of having multiple endings for most of the towns that you enter throughout the game.

Alternatively, there's Vampire: The Masquerade, which is a cracking FPS/RPG, along the lines of Deus Ex but considerably more RPG-esque. Again, there are a number of vampire races (effectively classes) that have greater or lesser effects on the way you tackle the game, and some truly eerie sequences - the haunted house level being especially memorable. Just make sure you download the patch before playing.

If you have NWN, Adam Miller's modules are vastly superior to the original campaign and expansions (with the possible exception of Hordes of the Underdark). They're called Shadowlords, Dreamcatcher, and Demon.

But if you have an Xbox 360 and like sci-fi, get Mass Effect. It nails that classic space opera feel like no other game I've played.

They did do a real Shadowrun RPG. It was out for the Genesis a few years back.. great game. (The SNES version was terrible though!)

If you don't mind the graphical hit (and something tells me you don't) you should check out http://www.the-underdogs.info/genre.php?id=7 there are a lot of great RPGs for you. Best part is.. free free free!

For those who don't know, it is an abandonware site. These are games who have let their copyright expire so they are now freeware. Some noteworthy games are Wasteland (the spiritual precursor to Fallout.) System Shock (precursor to Bioshock, with a lot more RPG in it) and Planescape: Torment.

Be aware that some computers may be TOO fast and powerful for these games. But there are ways around that. And a lot of them are well worth the effort.

Also I'd like to add that most of those abandonware games play excellently emulated on Linux (sometimes even better than original dos versions).

http://www.adom.de - best RPG I've ever played. Of course, roguelikes can be somewhat of an acquired taste...

Geez, that's too bad. Sorry to hear about your affliction. You're missing out on a few good games (granted there's a few bad ones too, but that goes without saying)

How about playing The Witcher? I also second trying out Vampire the Masquerade (just make sure you grab the community patches.)

Or you could play what I personally call an RPG Lite, like.. Jade Empire or Fable.

Or, since you listed Diablo.. do you want more hack and slash, such as Titan Quest?

witcher.. my pc is ancient

did vampire, nothin special there

titan quest was a 90 euro joke

titan quest was ok, but i figured the expansion would have PVP, it didnt and thus made the game useless imo.
