I need a new webcomic to follow. I want something that's funny but clearly plot-driven, like Girl Genius or Freakangels or Looking For Group.
Any recommendations?

Oh, and I promise to check out every recommendation. Except those I already am familiar with.

Darths and Droids is pretty good, assuming of course that you like DnD and Star Wars. There is a plot of sorts, which revolves around the players and the plot of the campaign they are in, and it's quite funny in my opinion. The campaign is basically the plot of Star Wars, but done in DnD style. There's also DM of the Rings, a similar comic, except it's about LOTR. Other than that I can't think of any...

El Goonish Shive and Aikonia are two that are well worth checking out. Aikonia is done by the person who does Awkward Zombie and is very well written. They story is pretty intriguing.

I've become semi-obssessed with the internet cult hit that is Homestuck, a very funny and endearing character driven story, I'd give a synopsis but...words fail me on this one. XD I've also recently gotten into Lackadaisy which has a nice setting, very lovingly detailed art and pretty nice story too. So give those a whirl.

Dr McNinja?
It's a bit odd at times, but certainly funny and story based!

Order Of The Stick is a long running D&D based comic that has an entirely original cast and setting. It started out as a parody but has since grown to an epic adventure in its own right.

Questionable Content is also very good and story based, basically revolving around the lives of a bunch of friends in Massachusetts. Be prepared for a long slog if you do pick it up though; the archive is over 2000 comics long.

I don't give a fuck what you say about plot-driven being a criteria.
Read Basic instructions! [http://basicinstructions.net/]

As for stuff that actually fits your criteria:
http://www.goblinscomic.com/
http://www.theawakenedcomic.com/
I stumbled across The awakened a long time ago, and then it stopped updating, so I stopped reading.
It started updating again recently, but I haven't bothered myself with reading through the archives.
It should be what you're looking for though.

There's also A modest destiny:

It was the first webcomic I read.
*sigh*
Such nostalgia.

Have you read the nuzlocke comics? Shit art that's shit for the fun of it, which gradually gets better and a plot that comes slightly into effect.

Also it's finished, which is cool. But it's short. Quite short.

I second (third?) Darths and Droids, as it makes some of the... weirder aspects of the Star Wars prequels more bearable. Order of the Stick and Dr. McNinja are some other good webcomics you might like. I'd also recommend sci-fi webcomics like Zap and Zortic, though the latter went through a reboot of sorts. The original version was full of shot-outs and parodies to just about everything nerdy, but the new version is moire like a soap opera... personally, I prefer the original version.

Questionable Content [http://questionablecontent.net/]

Slice of life comic, it develops very slowly to say the least (The artist has been drawing it for 9 years and it's been I'd wager about 2-3 years in the comic) but the characters are fantastic and addicting since it's been going so long. (over 2100 pages)

I have two recommendations here, if you don't mind sprite comics:

8-Bit Theater: Based very loosely on the NES Final Fantasy 1, the four Light Warriors attempt to save the world, and will most likely destroy it instead due to them all being either evil or incompetent. Already finished, and goes for 1,124 comics (not including stuff with no number.)

Captain SNES: A massive crossover between a bunch of SNES games, revolving around a successor to Captain N from that cartoon - except that main character Alex is a coward, swears like a sailor and has five major flaws that attempts to kill him. The plot is coherent, but you may want some multi-coloured string to keep track of it all. Updated every whenever the author feels like it.

Flipside [http://flipsidecomics.com], Rival Angels [http://www.rivalangels.com], Exiern [http://www.exiern.com/], and Misfile [http://www.misfile.com] are all webcomics I have absolutely no problem recommending to anyone willing to listen. :p

I can also definitely recommend EGS [http://www.egscomics.com]. I've been reading since 2002, and I don't see any reason to stop now.

I don't read a lot of webcomcis that are story based.

But... you should really try Nedroid. You look at some of it's older stuff and it's a bit strange...

But the newer stuff is gold =P. It even has a story somewhere in it!

To quote the author... "Everything in this comic is canon. Even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff."

Read it. [http://nedroid.com/]

(Edit: It even has the best anti SOPA/PIPA add I've seen... http://nedroid.com/2012/01/sopa-and-salad/ )

Heck, most of mine are already taken...

OOTS
Schlock Mercenary
Dr McNinja
Dinosaur Comics.
Penny Arcade
PvP
XKCD
Cyanide and Happiness
Dresden Codak
Oatmeal
Freak Angels
Garfield minus garfield
The Noob Comic (WoW/EQ MMO humour)
A Softer World (Hipster)
Nerf Now
And Shamus's playthroughs (LotRO, Champions)

Of them though - Order of The Stick is my favourite as I don't think Richie Burlew has done a bad strip in the entire time he's been writing them. And I couldn't even tell you which is my favourite character because they're all good. Even Belkar.
