Hey guys.
I'm sorry if I ask for so many recommendations, but I really hate spending too much money on a game I won't play all that much, so I like to hear opinions from all around.

Lately, I've been playing a lot of RPGs and such, and I haven't actually bought a modern shooter since Bad Company 2. Now, I've got this itch for a solid shooter that I can spend a lot of time on, but I'm not sure what's good.

Black Ops is supposedly quite good, but seems a little more violent than I want. Is there a way to turn the violence down, like in Gears of War? The multiplayer looks cool, too, but I want a solid single-player campaign too.

Halo: Reach looks like grand old time. The new features seem to have gone past simply just adding one new gun and some new levels to the game (a major issue with previous titles in the series), and it appears that stealth is actually possible now, which is a Godsend.
The co-op appears to be something I can do with my dad, even if I have to yell at him a little.
Overall, it looks cool.

So, what do you know about these games that I don't?
I'd like to hear some opinions from both sides.

Sounds like you want Halo. I have Halo Reach and I personally love it. Shooting stuff with a jetpack is always fun. Building maps in forge is REALLY addicting. Firefight Arcade is nuts, getting killtaculars every 5 seconds. Also, there's a dogfighting section in the campaign, I can't get over that :D

I only ever played CoD:BO once, so I can't really speak for it.

I would go with Reach. It has an amazing campaign compared to most shooters and the best multiplayer and co-op out there.

Reach, of course. Excellent campaign, excellent multiplayer (especially with friends). Don't go in expecting a Kubrick or anything, but it IS quality.

In b4 "Neither, get Half-Life".

Well if money is an issue why not get CoD4(it's not much different from BO), or an older Halo.

But for the most part it seems you have a preference to Halo, so why not just go with that.

Reach.
It has aliens and Pew Pew laser guns =)
I've played through it and it's a good game

I have all of the Half-Life games on multiple consoles.

Orange Box on 360
HL2 on PC.
Half Life Platinum (with all the expansions) on PC
HL1 on PS2

I was faced with this choice just before Christmas and went with Halo - and I prefer the CoD series to the Halo franchise. Black Ops just looked like more of the same without anything new added, whereas Bungie had finally made a Spartan vs Covenant game without the bloody Flood! That was an easy choice for me.

That solves that. :p

So you want a good shooter, but you also want to conserve money... And you decide to buy freshly released games?

I don't understand what the deal is with some people these days where they seem to think that whenever a game has been released for over a year, it suddenly disappears from the face of the earth.

Go down to the local retailer and skimmy through the damn used games section. If you're too lazy to then write down some considerations, go home and check their reviews online, just take a gamble and buy one of them. It might be shit, but it might also be brilliant, and it's miles better than spending $60. You never get anywhere in life if you don't try something new.

Both candidates suck huge balls, but if you only want to choose between two popular shooters, the better one might appeal to you: Blops.
Well then, what do you recommend?

Both games are royally awful. Do yourself a favor, and track "Unreal II the Awakening" down. Think halo, only good and with relate-able characters and a proper story. And it's quite old, so it won't cost you more then a few bucks.

Probably a Half-Life game or Metro 2033 (though I heard the console edition is messed up).

based on what you wrote, you want Halo:Reach. It's much more arcadey than Black Ops and much less of a twitch shooter; if you get shot by someone, chances are you can kill them first, happens to me a lot.

Earlier on I believe I mentioned that I have every Half-Life game.

Also, I'd play Metro 2033 on PC, but I have to RMA the graphics card, so I can't play any games on it right now.

If you have other CoD games then get Halo. The series has barely evolved since CoD 4 and has really only over saturated itself with weapon choice.

You have BC2? As well as the Orange box on PC.
Problems solved bro.
Now wait for the next good fps (BF3) like the rest of us.
Or just spend hours upon hours on TF2 or CSS.

I have both but I much prefer black ops because of the customaztion and a better community, also its basically perfected the COD multiplayer formula.
