I'm in need of a good, book to read for my 10th grade AS English class book report, and the only catch is that it has to be over 250 pages. Although, I'm also looking for good books to read in general. So, any suggestions?

Well, if any type of book will do...

A Game of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin. It has a bit of "adult" content, but it's very good.

Anything by HP Lovecraft. It's pure horror, though some of his stories may be a bit slow. It would be easy to write about them because they generally contain many short stories. I'm reading about half a dozen right now.

If not, Douglass Adams' series, A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, is sheer brilliance. I read them around grade 10 or earlier. They're not hard to get through and won't have you rushing back and forth to the dictionary, and are a pleasure to read.

I'd also recomend the Hobbit. It's shorter and more of a breeze to read through other than the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I felt it was more action packed than the other books and the story flowed more easier.

I'm in 10th grade, so I'll just tell you what my summer reading books were for Honors English as they both have some good meanings behind them that you can use for your report.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, it was about a kid whose dad died in 9/11 and found a key with the name "Black" on it in his father's room, so he goes searching for who might own the lock for this key.

It was a decent book. I didn't care for it so much, but a lot of the kids in my class liked it. It has an interesting writing style to it that is intriguing, but it's a bit hard to understand at times.

Life of Pi is about an Indian boy who was moving to Canada and his ship sinks. He is then left on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger trying desperately to survive.

I really liked this book. It never dragged on and was a fun read all the way through. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't already read it in school.

Read The Belgariad.
It's actually a few books put together, each over 250 pages, and a damned good read.

World War Z by Max Brooks
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
A Fighter's Heart by Sam Sheridan

All of them are very interesting and exciting reads. Each of these books I finished within a week of getting.

If you haven't already read it, The Watchmen and the original Dune books.

Sidhartha is very philosophical if like that kind of thing. If you like adventure more, try Ender's Game.

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, and the rest of the series. Douglas Adams was a genius.

Also try King Dork by Frank Portman, it's quite good.

A good book for a report is "To Kill a Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee. I'm not sure if this is over 250 pages (probably is but check anyway) but I am certain that it is a very good book for reporting on.

A fantastic read anyway, if you haven't picked it up yet do so NOW!

Wow, noone's said to Kill A Mockingbird yet. Add that one on. It's a must read, or at least watch the movie.

EDIT

Damn you Fire!

A humongous second on that. The Road is an amazing read. Also very touching.

Yes, yes and yes.

It's a must-read. Even if you end up hating it.

Ah, the Guide.... I'm reading the final book in that series right now....
I agree with Purple Rain; To Kill a Mockingbird is a wonderful book (and the only novel I ever actually enjoyed writing a report on)
I also highly recommend The Once and Future King by T.H. White... It's not hard to understand and quite funny, even though the plot slows down every now and then....Plus people will think you're massively intelligent for reading it! ;D
