Alright so yeah I know there are a lot of trolls out there dyin to tear apple a new one over the I-Pad, and until recently I was one of them.
A friend and fellow music major at the college I'm attending was using his I-pad to not only look at the score of a song, but he could also have it
played to him....alright I don't give a damn what you say that is pretty cool for a music geek and I've started my own research.

However, I would love to hear some testimonies from other I-pad wielders about the pros and cons of the I-pad. (second gen if u don't mind :3 )

First, remove that other thread thats exactly the same please?

Second, the ipad is a very nice device. It IS basically a bigger iPod touch, but apple have made the feel of it and the interface very nicely. The biggest problem is the lack of something called FLASH!

I meet with members of the Queensland University of Technology quite regularly. For some reason all the higher ups (Doctors and Professors) seem to have iPad/iPad 2s. I don't know, maybe QUT gives one to them? In any case, I've borrowed some of theirs and I've listened to them talk about the iPad 2, and here's my impression:

1) It's a cool device to use. It feels really "futurey" and it works well when you want it to do specific things it has been designed to do.
2) It's easy to carry around but its hard to prevent it from being scratched unless you invest in a case or a protective screen. They are constantly worrying about "breaking" their iPad. I'm not sure if iPads are fragile, but they seem to be terrified of breaking theirs.
3) If you already have a decent laptop, they recommend not buying one, unless you really hate the weight of your laptop. The iPad is cool and all, but it can't do anything (work-related) that a laptop can't do.
4) It's really not that good for taking notes during lectures, unless you've bought a keyboard for it, or unless you really hate writing.

All in all - it's neat. It's undeniably neat and cool looking and it can do a fair number of neat things. If you don't have a good laptop, and you really hate writing during lectures (fair enough) or you just want something to browse the internet when you lounge around on a couch and you can afford one, then sure, go ahead, buy one. They're neat.

But if you already have a decent laptop, or if money is a concern for you as it is for most of us, or if you don't mind using pen-and-paper to jot down notes during lectures, then it's really not necessary. There is no PRACTICAL reason to get one, given its expense. It's an awesome luxury item, though.
