I really don't want to get Black Ops

I'm sure lots of people will disagree, but I liked CoD 4 for its realism and somewhat believable story. And then Modern Warfare 2 showed up, and basically said "Screw realism" in the first hour of playing when Roach flies across a canyon on a snowmobile. And watching the trailer for Black Ops, it basically looks like more of the same, but bigger. It seems like Call of Duty is the Jaws of video games, getting more and more ridiculous with each installment. So the question is, are you getting Black Ops?

Maybe. I'll see what my friends have to say about it.

But I saw an SR-71 Blackbird in that trailer. If I can fly that, then it will totally be worth it.

On a side note: fuck realism. Gaming is about ESCAPISM.

Well don't get it then. I'm quite looking forward to it, a bit too much realism was always off-putting to me. No game is ever fully realistic, when one tries it just makes regenerating health or even medkits that instantly heal several bullet wounds that much more ridiculous.

Whatever it is, it will be better than MW2. MW2 is about as imbalanced and broken as a game can possibly get. There's no way black ops will be anywhere near that awful.

Yeah, this is the first COD that I probably won't play since I first got into the series with COD2. I think that has less to do with Black Ops itself and more to do with the fact that I'm just getting bored with the franchise.

Yeah I loved that game. Especially the Frontline mission, I replayed that about 5 times before my friend wanted it back.

FUCK TREYARCH!

Besides that, no, I don't want the game. I loved CoD/2/4/MW2.

I despised WaW. I think it was the last WW2 shooter I've seen (THANK GOD), and I hope the modern combat trend will end soon as well.

Can I PLEASE get my WW1 game, guys?

If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's just that simple. Save up for something you will want. November is always the month for good games as it is just before christmas and it's my birthday then. Fallout NV has my eye at the moment.

Depends.
IF there are dedicated servers, the ability to mod out all the crap, and a precise control scheme (read: includes using a 4000+ DPI mouse)

Then ... maybe.
It's still call of duty.

I certainly won't buy it, but I have a friend who digs the series so I will probably steal his copy and play it. I enjoyed the single player for pretty much every CoD that I've played, including MW2. Yes it was pretty ridiculous, but it did it in a very charming way. Also, knifing
Shepard
at the end was quite satisfying. I look forward to another ~5 hours of silliness in Black Ops (though certainly not 60$ looking forward!)

You'd save yourself a big chunk of money if you don't buy it. I think MW2, WaW, and MW1 feel really similar, so if you own one or two out of the three you're not missing out on much. I don't know why Black Ops would be any different.

I don't plan on it as of right now.

I, personally, am fed up with these war shooters. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor. I'm sick of every game either being compared to it or ignored completely for it.

About two months ago, I had someone come into my store with an unplayed but opened copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Though painfully short, it's worth spending the roughly 6 hours to play it, even if you trade it in immediately thereafter. It was a father, who bought it for his kids. They never played it. He said they couldn't tear themselves away from Modern Warfare 2 long enough to play it. Really? This is what we've come to? I don't care if you're 5 or 25. If your parents buy you something because they think you would like it, at that point you're OBLIGATED to play at least for 5 minutes to fairly say, "I appreciate that you thought of me, but I don't like this game."

That said, you'll have to excuse me if I don't get my hopes up for anything Call of Duty.

Then don't buy it, more for me.

But I can see your point with realism. They just decided to get rid of it. Just threw it out like some Guitar Hero controllers to the mouth of a volcano.
But then again, aren't video games supposed to be fantasy, and not real? Otherwise they would just be called virtual reality
