I think Portal (and Portal 2) did Success and Failure best because your success wasn't treated like some amazing thing (until late in the game). You felt and were treated like a pawn in some bigger scheme and your success is responded with as such. Failure well, you fail and you know it. Only until late game do you understand what's really going on and how big a role you play.
