So they finally show us what they were working on in 2010. and it looks like Rage and COD mixture. so glad they cancelled that trash. even director of game reffer it as "call of doom"

the design and everything choosen from Rage. and we can see the ugliness of ID tech 5 aka worst engine of all time.

Bethesda is now becoming my fav company. first they cancelled consolized call of doom 4 in a favor of Real old school FPS. then they cancelled far cry in space called Prey 2 in a favor of new PREY that is more like old school immersive sim in the vien of System shock and Deus Ex!!.

Even though the game doesn't exist and now never will, it will still be GOTY 2017, you mark my words my friend.

Well, that was depressing. I mean, the video in of itself is fine but seeing "Doom 4"...well, honestly, I'd rather have Doom 4 than Doom 2016. I can't say if it would have been a good game, but I can't call Doom 2016 "good" either (not bad though, mind you). At least Doom 4 might have been in the style of Doom 3. Least it might have addressed the plot hints in the novels. Least it might have saved the series from a second reboot. Also, I read that Doom 4 would have taken inspiration from 'Contact', in regards to how it approached the very concept of Hell and demons. No idea how that would have worked, or even if it COULD work, but I'd take that over Doom 2016's approach to story which is "wink wink, nudge nudge, hint hint, wait for the sequel."

So, add Fallout to that list, and we have a trifecta of Bethesda taking IPs and turning them upside down.

Um, okay...more power to you I guess.

even id software thing Doom 4 was "call of doom". how could you know it would be good?

it was heavily cinematic, linear, iron sights, regen health etc

it was Doom game that involved a super soldier instead of badass Doom slayer

Doomguy? The grizzled brownhaired buzzcut-toting military white dude that played a large part in establishing the whole 'grizzled brownhaired buzzcut-toting military white dude as protagonist in a FPS" archetype? The superhuman power fantasy that runs as fast as a car, lugs around half a ton of guns and ammo and takes bullets to the face like pornstars take money shots?

I have no idea of what to make of this comment. I think there is some profound poignancy in it, a genius that challenges on so many levels. Or maybe it's just hilarious. Either way, I absolutely love it.

... am I the only one who's getting Hellgate: London vibes from those pics? I mean, just based on those two pictures, this looks like it'd be what happens when you dump CoD, Hellgate and Tom Clancy's The Division into a blender.

Granted, I don't think that sounds like I bad idea, but it's not what I'd want from a DOOM game - that's a name that carries certain expectations with it.

I know what B-Cell means. Doom should be DOOM, not another wannabe retread of terrain worn thin since last gen.

Maybe it would've been a worthwhile concept, but as something other than Doom. "Loosely based off of" is where it'd be best left.

I like the way that it's apparently too far for B-Cell.
Military dude who happy to slaughter demons for fun, speeds round like the frickin RoadRunner and carries an arsenal to make an NRA-nut salivate? Sounds great!
Make him a super soldier? "Rah rah rah this isn't Doom!"
Because super soldiers can't be badass demon slayers...

Well they can't. Doomguy may collect power ups that make him invisible, invulnerable and able to do more damage with his fists than a chainsaw, but he is in no way a super soldier. He's a badass demon slayer.

I just spent an entire post describing how I didn't know if it would be good.

None of which are inherently negative.

Um, the Doom Slayer is a super soldier. And nothing about the footage or statements indicate that the protagonist would have been anything other than an average joe.

Oh my God it showed a woman! Truly these are the End Times! Forget Hell, if a woman is in a Doom game, then she has to be a love interest! The series is ruined! Repent! Repent!

Weird as this sounds, I kind of get a Darksiders vibe (open fissures, demons ruling Earth, etc. Granted the art styles are like night and day.

I'm pretty sure that's the USA movie industry fault, or the fact that people who create games are usually white for some random reason that has nothing to do with statistics.
While that is true, I don't believe the role of Doomguy should be discounted. Doom set many standards and while Doomguy is not the OG brownhaired white military dude in FPS [footnote]I suppose that's actually Wolfenstein's BJ Blaskowitz, unless I'm forgetting someone.[/footnote], by virtue of popularity, he likely set a precedent for other devs to choose similar protagonists for their shooters. Success begets imitators.

The footage they showed didn't look like doom...at all. As a game not carrying the doom name it could have worked...maybe... But as a doom game, hell no.

Doom 2016 is what a doom game should be. It could have had less repetitive arena-like area's where you had to kill X waves of demons before the gate to the next area opened, but otherwise it was far better than this Doom 4 they had planned. Health regen? Stealth mechanics? Aim down sights? A linear scripted story with even a love interest? Cmon...that isn't Doom.

You say that as if B-Cell ever had a coherent opinion.

As far as I can tell, it's always...

"im b-cell my friend
every unreleased game is game of the year and anythign any shooter does differently to Doom 1994 make is absolute shit my friend
i only care about feeling badass and any growth depth and/or character development makes dumb and a pussy my friend
i hate women in my games because they're gross and have coooooooties my friend

myfriendmyfriendmyfriendmyfriend"

And he never stops calling people his friend, no matter how much they tell him to stop or that they hate him.
It's annoying as all fuck.
Ahhh, that gave me a chuckle~

OT: Ehhhh. Could've been cool, but I do see what people mean by it not looking like "Doom"
