Idea for a game

I have been watching lots of monsterquest and other shows and thought a computer game in which the player undertakes the part of a cryptic researcher might be fun. You could have a variety of "monsters", locations, equipment, etc and actually "hunt" for the mysterious beasts. And since its not known for the most part if any of them actually exist you could make it an exceedingly rare event to ever actually find anything but have some small chance that the occasional glimpse could occur. To offset that, you could also have known but rare creatures such as the Okapi or sumatran tiger or javan rhino which given time and patience could actually be found and recorded.

Obviously there could be a large frustration quotient for this as getting results would be extremely time consuming but for those with the patience to play it out it might could be a fun way to kill a few hours.

Has this already been done and I simply am unaware and if not does anyone think it could be feasible?

well you could say its a variant of hunting games, those fucking bears.

but i doubt anyone would have the patience for such a game, it seems to much an effort to catch a "glimpse" of some animal however rare it may be, there would be no sense of achievement in it

Doesn't seem to me like the gameplay would be very interresting.

Run/walk around for hours and BAM you see a big fucking yeti leaping off on e cliff onto another. YAY, now several more hours of walking around.

well not just walking though, camera traps, live traps, recording devices, set it up like a real live expedition. Obtain liscensing rights to include actual photos and pictures of various evidence, talk to eyewitnesses in game, I guess I am thinking sort of a Sim Cryptozoologist maybe

Interesting idea, but for a game? I don't think it'd work - players want instant gratification, or at least an interesting story / gameplay mechanics and this idea doesn't include any of those.
