No offence mate but I disagree. Looks are like the icing on the cake. It doesn't neccessarily need the icing to taste good, but sometimes it can compliment and othertimes it can ruin the cake.

Personally I don't like icing.
Cakey analogy sums up pretty much everything.

Sidenote: Icing is disgusting, same as Marzipan.

I'll think you'll find I'm pretty damn hideous, but my boyfriend doesn't seem to care.

It might be true of people, but not of individuals.

Anyway I don't know why I'n arguing, it is your opinion after all.

Mysterious, feisty, attractive (kind of redhead or brunette, and petite and cute rather than tall and hot...), kind of an enigma. Intelligent, nice person, good personality, similar interests to me (mainly acting and theatre, books, generally just culture itself, and film-making). Quirky sense of humour. Yep, I have pretty high standards. No wonder I'm single :(.

(although maybe my lack of confidence has something to do with that too...)
I reckon the lack of confidence has more to do with it than the high standards. Think about it, a confident person will not worry about finding a date, as they will know that they will find someone eventually, and that life is good now anyway so they do not need a special someone in their life. As a result, they will not be totally open and honest about their feelings, they will not share every little detail of their life, and this will make them seem mysterious.

I know confidence isn't easy, you know I've had a lot of issues with my view of myself. However, when I have managed to have that bit of confidence, even if it's only for a couple of hours, things have seemed better and flirting is easier. So work on your confidence, and I'm sure you'll have all the ladies after you.... ;)

Not in my opinion, but how I look isn't what this thread's about xD
I think I agree to an extent, the media portrays looks as the single most important thing in relationships a lot and it does become all what some people care about E.G pulling hot women, but I'll think youll find there's lots of people who'd rather have a beautiful personality anyday.

i just think generally the looks is what starts the interest and the personality is what keeps them hooked

The media is a huge problem imo, especially those aimed at female audiences. They're always throwing around adverts about make up, perfume, cremes & other items.
Most of the women today have forgotten how beautiful they actually are, because they're always comparing themselves to the airbrushed figures in magazines.

So whilst they're questioning their own looks they pull into question their partners looks, and base a relationship of who is better looking than who, rather than who is more suited for their situation.
That's my take on it.

I completely agree, apart from pulling their partners looks into the equation. I think lots of women don't feel good enough for their partners. I know I certainly don't, and with the constant push of 'perfect bodies' aswell as amazingly airbrushed faces it makes women feel completely inadequate.

I reckon the lack of confidence has more to do with it than the high standards. I suppose you've got a point there. It was my university Summer Ball last night, a friend of one of my flatmates was there too and although he was kind of drunk, he kept urging me to go out and just go up to someone, anyone, and talk to them and try to meet someone new. Ironically enough he was a new person to me too. I kind of took what he said with a pinch of salt since he was pretty drunk all night, my flatmates usually pre-drink so they don't have to spend money on the overpriced drinks in bars and clubs and so on (£3.00 for a bottle of lager last night, and this is the student union sponsored event, what a ripoff!). However, looking back he definitely had a point. That said, I did end up with two random drunk girls coming up to me and kissing me and a friend on the cheek and saying "have a good night", though they were obviously drunk, and another bizzarely grabbed me in a hug from behind and kissed me on the eye, for some strange reason...

Anyway, I'm planning to just do everything on impulse this week, I'm staying in Leeds for a friend's birthday next weekend then going home for the summer, but until then I've got nothing to do except sit around on my laptop all day, so I'll be going out into the city and just trying anything new. Hopefully doing that will be a bit of a confidence boost, and get me to actually meet some new people :D
