If games cause violent tendancies, what about sports?

why is the media so focused on violent images, when from grade school kids are taught to hit each other? shouldn't there be more talks of banning football? european or american. Both cause violence, even riots, even GTA hasn't accomplished that yet. They both teach kids that violence and rough play do often times lead to success, but instead of on a screen where kids can seperate reality from fiction, sports are active, you actually commit the violence, and real people cheer you're tackle, even when somebody gets carted off the field as a result.

preteding to be violent, pretending to be angry is where i get my stress relieved, so i DONT shoot up a walmart. But when you are actualy encouraged to be angry, encouraged to be violent, that's when you're blurring the line of acceptable behavior. Just google search "athlete arrested" vs. "gamer arrested" and see what I meen

They do, but the media will never see it that way. Sports are too accepted to be used as a scapegoat.

Every year in soccer, I end up defending against a guy who is notoriously angry and violent whenever the bal comes within 10 feet of him.

But when it isn't, I actually enjoy talking with him, even though he's pushed me over, kicked, and cursed at me, getting various yellow cards.

True, but sports are more socially accepted, so they apprently get a pass. Who cares if professional athletes are committing, I don't know....animal abuse, assaults, robery, murder, rape, tax evasion... You know, the kinds of things people suspect gamers to be more likely to do, and yet statisticly don't. They've got those multimillion dollar contracts to represent city X and we need them around to do so! They could try to distort the facts saying that more gamers commit crimes than professional athletes, but that's only because gamers outnumber them quite easily.

It's all crap in the end, beacause it's so much easier to blame the games for violence because of it still being a fairly "new" thing to those in charge. It's just how the world goes, when something new comes out that politicians and such don't understand then it's obviously going to become a scapegoat.

My best suggestion in the end is to not think about it too much, the stupidity will hurt your
brain quite easily. At least the courts are on our side at this time, and they don't accept arguments such as "Well we found a game console in his house, so that's obviously the cause!"

End of rambling

That actually makes sense. Internets to you my good man/woman/thing. I think that Games get more heat because more and more children play games involving using the torn off arm of a man and beating his family to death with it. Despite the fact that these people aren't even real the Media will always focus on them because they can get a better story. Truly ironic since I just got out of a course doing media studies and journalism.
