If you can go back to 1984, to the land of Dragons Lair, Pacman, and Atari, and have those gamers play 3 games to show him how gaming has changed, how awesome games are now compared to his , or just BLOW HIS FREAKING MIND, what 3 games from today would you show him?

Edit: yes, and everything you need to play it too, lol. And as long.

Of course, not counting the "OH MY GOD, YOURE A TIME TRAVELER" factor, lol

I'd pick Crysis (for graphical "holy shit"), Sims 3 (to show him just how many different directions gaming can go), and Google's Pac-Man anniversary app (to show him that there's still love for the classics and that the games of his era rule.)

Crysis would be immposible to play on anything but a supercomputer and even then probably on the lowest settings.

Tetris on gameboy, Minesweeper on windows and Wii Sports. Their gaming future would be layed out before them in one crazy mind blowing kaleidoscope.

For graphics, Final Fantasy XIII. For sheer WOW factor, Fallout 3. And to show them the dark side of thing, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

GTA IV just for the shock value.
ES IV or III just to show them how big a game can be.
And World of Warcraft to show them just how popular the industry will become.

I would take any 3 of Valve's games (Mainly the HL games) so they will have a head start in making them. That would mean that if it happened I might be playing Hl2 episode 3 right now.

There's such thing as bringing a laptop with you

OT: God of War 3, because it would probably be disturbing to see HD rendered gore like that for the first time. Crysis for the obvious "OMG look at those graphics." Then, borderlands, because it's so damned fun.

Deus Ex for how well an FPS/RPG (or whatever you want to call it) can be when worked hard.
Jade Empire as a firm warning to Bioware not to fuck about.
God of War because the world should never have been with Kratos.

Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4, and Napoleon: Total War.

That's from my own collection of games.

Not sure. But I'm pretty sure they're reaction will be "Your givin the tools to create anything you want, why does everyone in your time seem to always make it brown, grey, on Earth, and about some type of military?"

In which case, I would show them Mass Effect 1, Fable 2, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Mass Effect because it shows how big games can be. In terms of worlds and story. Plus, you don't go on Earth. And I chose the first because I felt it had the better narrative. Plus, it shows the Galaxy. And since the time you stated is post Star Wars/Star Trek, well you have a lot of people who can finally live their dreams of seeing the galaxy.

Fable 2 because I want to show them how not to do an RPG story. But everything else in the game, the beautiful world, the dark, funny humor, the unique, fun, interesting, and funny sidequests, and how much freedom games can give you. How some things that seem big don't matter that much, and how small things can matter a lot. It also shows how hilariously broken game economies can be. Which considering the game itself I can't tell if that was intended or not.

Shadow of the Colossus because it shows how less is more. How only 16 enemies is still more fun to take down then endless waves of faceless baddies. And how amazingly fun it is to scale giants, and them bring them down. Plus the story is phenomenal, and shows how gaming can be a powerful narrative with little to no dialog.

Also, another reason I picked these is because they don't have multiplayer. Well Fable 2 does, but that was an afterthought and shows that not everything needs multiplayer. If they saw what multiplayer did to gaming as a whole, or basically what xbox live did (birth multiplayer-centric games, birth xbox live douchebags), they would cry.

Assassin's Creed 1 for story/gameplay...
Battlefield 1943 for multiplayer...
and Left 4 Dead for coop/gameplay.

I would go back and show:

1) Napoleon Total War for its graphics and number of people
2) Soul Calibur 2 because it's so I could shove it in a game developers face and go "SEE THIS? MAKE MORE GAMES LIKE THIS!!!!!"
3) and of course Katamari Damacy, just to screw with 'em
