If You Could Change Human Nature

Suppose you by some form of time machine or divine power bestowed upon you by who knows what, that you could change one aspect of human nature. What would you do? Would you change something or would you just leave it be? And if so why?

Personally I would change how greedy we are. Most of our problems arise from a human being obsessed with gaining power, wealth, status, etc. We destroy our enviroment to benifit out economy, we steal from one another because we didn't have the funds or didn't care and just took what we wanted, and we rip off others to benifit ourselves. I also bet our governments would be more trustworthy as well if they weren't looking out for themselves most of the time.

So make a decision.

It's kind of hard to explain, but whatever it is that makes us let our governments walk all over us even when they are fucking things up, lying and making up laws most people disagree with.

For example Britain. Why the hell is Gordon Brown still allowed in office? Most people will agree he is worthless and yet he hasn't been removed. Why not? If you fail in your duty as a leader you should be removed by the people, but it doesn't happen.

I guess it could be fear, or laziness. Whatever it is, I would change that.

The nature I would change is tribalism, from it stems racism, religious hate, patriotism that leads to a "not our country not our problem," way of thinking. when humans notice that we're all human, then the world can start becoming a better place.

Personally I would change how greedy we are. Most of our problems arise from a human being obsessed with gaining power, wealth, status, etc.

But all of our successes are based upon this too. If we weren't always striving for more, we would still be living in caves.

Well we could still be selfless, genrous (spelled it wrong I know), etc. So we might just better ourselves for the sake of improving everyones lives.

i do mean that when people have the chance to choose between their own gain or the good of the people, they will tend alot more to the latter...

Can't think of anything, to be honest. I like the differences in opinions, I like the nutjobs, I like the mistakes and faults, the competition, the cruelty and the kindness.

Without all this, we'd still be wading in rives with spears.

I'd probably remove the average human's behavioral inhibitions, just to see what would happen. If nothing else, it would make the world a more interesting place.

Eugenics

The world was on to something, but Hitler went hog wild, gave the whole thing a bad outlook, and people ran away.

Many people were behind such a program. Alexander Bell, Ben Franklin, George Washing, Alexander Hamilton, ect.

Eugenics would certainly help a lot with removing imperfections from the gene pool. HOWEVER, those imperfection help prevent overpopulation. So, unless you want to live in a dystopia-like future then eugenics really isn't a solution.

OT: I'd remove the knowledge of how to make class A attacks.

(In my imaginary world, "class A attacks" encompasses any device or thing with the destructive power similar to that of a nuclear or atomic bomb. By destructive I mean how many people it can kill and as such it includes "biological" attacks as well.)

I don't agree. Most wars happen between nations as a result of conflict of interests, not because some single "bad guy" nation decided that it "wanted it all" all of a sudden.

Please understand that ambition and greed isn't the same thing, you can expand and increase your nations wealth (and then put that wealth to good use in a way that benefits the people) without doing so through selfish or even outright aggressive means.

Ambition isn't greed, regardless of whatever the "wanting more is bad" crowd says.

I meant greed by doing what you said above just for selfish reasons. Wars don't start because of one desperate or greedy individual, it's usually a group of them. When I said a greedy individual I meant like a guy running a company who hires cheap labour so he gains more profit, uses unhealthy and unsafe working spaces to save money, who destroys other peoples lands to get cheap resources, and who pollutes the Earth through his companys' waste because he didn't want to pay to have it disposed of properly.

Reversed gender roles. There are times I wish guys knew the sexual paranoia that comes with being a girl. Although, the way to do this would not be psychological, but physiological: if all girls had vagina dentata, it would be the guys who would worry whether a girl is talking to them just to talk, or if they're trying to OHMNOM their penis off.

And no, it does not grow back. ^_^

Maybe it's my chaotic good side [small]or my chaotic evil side[/small] but I would probably remove all societal norms and let people do what they want, that's true human nature.

I relate alot of things to movies. Take Demolition Man for example with Sylvester Stallone. The character, Dr. Raymond Cocteau tried to do exactly this. He wanted to change the world for the better but ended up unbalancing everything. I hate to say this but I'd probably leave things alone.
