I'm going to make my own patches; can acrylic paint go through the wash?

I'm going to be making my own patches and sew them on my clothing, but I'm not sure what type of paint I should use. If I were to use acrylic paint could I still wash my clothing without the paint coming off?

If I remember correctly it does come off or fade maybe not right away but over time. I haven't painted in a long time so I could be wrong.

Just get some proper fabric paint/ink and remember to heat set it when it's dry.
