I'm in love with the Oculus Rift. Should wait to buy?

Just looking for opinions from maybe people who actually own it. I know the developer version is out but after watching a few games, I feel like the kid in me from the 80's finally is witnessing stuff that I dreamed about. I'm pretty sold but just debating if I should get it now or wait for the consumer version.

Any first hand opinions?

Its not exactly the most comfortable experience. Not the heaviest rig, but you definitely know its there.

If you're super sold on the idea, sure drop the money, but in my opinion its a novelty item. Unless you care abut developing anything, I would wait for the consumer version.

You really should try it first yourself, they bring them to almost every convention now.
It is quite the novelty experience, instead of observing a game world through flat screens it feels like you are standing in one, or at least your head is.

However it's no replacement for a monitor, eye strain can be quite severe, motion sickness goes right to 11, the setup is long and arduous for every game, you will be limited to mods and indie games/experiments for the time and you are paying $300+.
In short this is no plug and play toy, for now unless you are developing something or just want to play around that badly I wouldn't recommend it.

Before you buy an Oculus Rift, you might want to wait and see what Valve is going to reveal next year:

How would these impact four-eyed people like myself? Gots to keep my horn rims on.

A man after my own heart here, I have watched dozens of videos, read loads of forum posts, and sat on the "Buy" page on the Oculus Rift website drumming my fingers. Do I want it? Most definitely. Can I afford it? I'm part time employed and still living at home so I have a decent bank balance, so yes.

However I really think I want to wait for the consumer version, or at least the next upgrade, even if it's slightly more expensive, as I'll be kicking myself if I buy now and the 1080p version comes out in a few months.

I've been restraining myself, waiting for the consumer version since they will have worked out a lot of glitches, and more developers will have had time to play with it and add support by then.

In the demo videos I've seen, it has multiple different lenses that you can switch between, with different magnification levels for people with sight problems. So I think you're covered.
