I'm leaving the Escapist.

Recently I went to the optometrist to get my eyes checked and got some world-shattering news: I was slowly going blind. If I do not severely cut my screen usage, I will be completely blind in 10 years. When I say severely, I mean from 30 hours per week minimum to 6 hours per week maximum. I have to cut corners to maximise the usefulness of those 6 hours, and the Escapist is one of those corners.
I don't want to leave the Escapist. I would love to keep living my life this exact same way. But if I do, I will completely destroy my future opportunities.
I cried when I heard the news. I cried more than I ever cried before. But there's nothing I can do.
Of course, I'll stick around to hear your condolences and goodbyes. But once this thread dies I'm leaving my account to rot, until my eyes get better. And then I'll return to you all, I promise.

Well I do not know you but that is some rather unfortunate news! I was expecting some usual drama reason for leaving but this is much different. I really hope you can keep your sight and I totally get that this site isn't on your list of priorities. Take care and live a good life man!

Shit, that's some pretty crappy news right there... It makes me wonder about my own eyesight, which has been getting progressively worse since I left college (4 years ago). I assume this means a huge reduction in the amount of videogames you play?

Sad times...especially with Skyrim so close to release.

Wow, that's awful. I'm sure it's gonna be a more common disease in the future. I hear that there are screens and glasses that helps a lot with the impact screens have on you, maybe you should look into it?

Tell us if we might ease the passing with a ban. Unfortunately, sacrificing trolls to Kross has not proved to produce any positive results for illness in a control study when compared to placebo.
