Rp Game Thread.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/540.853996-Immortals-Club-Game-Thread-Arc-One-Welcome-Party-Started-Open

The role-play deals with handling an Immortal character in a Mortal world, the ancient relationships between undying people and the journey of every Immortal as they cope with their own endlessness. Honestly, how would you handle being Immortal? What would you do with all of that time? How would your perception of the world and humanity change? What's there left to live for - even if you're never going to die?

The Immortal's Club is an exclusive club with just one rule - if you want to get in, you've got to cheat death. It's a place where everybody knows each other, and they have eternity to get to know all of the members.

Ever wondered what it would be like to never die or grow old? Ever wondered what a bore it would be to stick around while everything around you changes, stand steady as an unmovable boulder while the whole landscape changes around you? Time has a different meaning once you're Immortal, and so does everything else when you've predated the written word. But, of course, not all of the Immortals are the same. Some of them have joined only recently, and many others enjoy their carefree lives. Every Immortal knows every other Immortal - at some point you're bound to be found out - which is when they're invited to the club.

Aren't you sick of your friends dying on you? Aren't you sick of your lovers leaving you? Aren't you sick of outliving your children, your children's children's and so on? Knowing other Immortals will make your life much easier. Friendships that last centuries are forged. Lovers can stay together forever - literally. Even when the world changes, the members of the Immortal's Club never do - unless a new member joins the group. Then again, old grudges never die out. Debts are always remembered. When you're immortal - the world has a different meaning. Life has a different meaning.

The reason for Immortality is unique to every Immortal. An Immortal can never die. They can never age. They can never be sick. Their bodies regenerate when they are injured.

A route to Immortality can't be recreated. Once you've done it, it can't be done again the same way.

The difficulty in being an Immortal is blending in a mortal world. Hiding your real identity and age is a requirement. If the world knew of Immortals, the first thing they would do is copy what they did - the second would be to try and kill them. They would fail both - but it would raise hell. Hiding your regenerative abilities is also crucial. You need to explain how your severed arm got reattached - or live the rest of time without an arm.

You can't be studied for the benefit of mankind. You can't leave the closet as an Immortal and try to rule the world. Interfering with normal proceedings of humanity will certainly wreck the delicate balance of the mortal world, and piss off a lot of fellow Immortals... the last thing you want is to make other Immortals hate you. That's the problem with Immortals - they can hate you forever... and there's nothing you can do about it.

Character Sheets will be a smidgen different than usual. No Age or Biography, plus we're dropping anything related to 'skills' and replacing it with 'Disposition'.
The characters were once mortal and ascended into their new position. Each has their own unique path they took. Keep it real, keep it reasonable, keep it awesome.
Name: (What the name people know you by? Do you keep your "original" birth-name? Do you constantly change your name to fit the time and place?)
Gender:
Appearance:
Personality: (This is an important aspect of the character. How does your character behave?)
Unique Immortality: (What's the reason for your character's undying status? Anything that comes to mind, really - ascension to godhood, mutations, alchemy, child of an Immortal...)
Disposition: (Qualities of mind and body. Likes, dislikes, attitudes towards the world and other immortals, etc.)
Plot Points: (Any noteworthy locations and time-periods you've been in that you want to mention?)

I like this idea, a couple of questions. Does an immortal have to be human, or can they be a mythological being like a fae? I can always make my character the only known one of their species if that's a requirement. Will we be focusing on one particular time period throughout or skipping along our character's immortal lives?

This certainly does sound interesting. Give me a little while to consider the possibilities, and I'll hopefully have a character sheet up before too long.

Cool, Iron Ruler. An inspiration from the last R&P only having immortals?

I made a character and his immortality may be pretty disgusting.

EDIT: I finished the required edits! I made up an old legend.

EDIT EDIT: I got the appearance and personality down.

Name: Shenshen

Appearance: He's around 1 meter 80 and looks like a pretty unremarkable 30 year old man. He has dark hair, brown eyes and a slightly rough face.

He has sinewy heavily tanned skin which sort of resembles leather and prefers to wear shorts with a shirt and sandals and a light cloak that covers his body when the sun is particularly strong.

Personality: Shenshen believes he has seen it all. He's experienced the pits and summits humanity can go and many things in between. He has become dulled to the world and it takes an extreme event to get him worked up anymore. The prideful young man who cursed the sun for taking away everything he loved has been pacified (or so he believes) and at the present day he has taken up a wait and see attitude towards most events in the world. He's just really tired as a whole.

He's polite and relatively discreet in his day to day life and he tries to remain civil in his day to day interactions. He prefers to keep to his routine and likes to live in a walking distance to a baker.

He wakes up before dawn to see the sun rise and sometimes throws a nail or stick at it, just for old times sake. With that small act of rebellion done with he eats, washes, reads the news or history books for their comedic value. and then walks around talking to random strangers. It's when night falls that he's primarily active and at his strongest.

While he tries to avoid forming any close friendships he constantly seeks opportunities for idle banter.

He is always curious about any new technological breakthroughs and is fascinated by new communications technology and space travel. He's willing to chat about anything with anyone though, as long as it's not about the great and the powerful or recent pop culture. Otherwise, he clams up and makes excuses about a prior engagement before leaving.

He's also a cook that specializes in recipes thought to be lost to time.

Immortality:
A long time ago there lived a man called Shenshen. He was a very good bowmen. So much so that he boasted that he could hit the sun at it's peak. Utu, the sun god's pride was enraged by this insult and dared the hunter to touch him in his zenith. If he couldn't Utu would release the dead from the underworld and have him killed. Shenshen was shaken by this and decided to cheat. He waited for Utu at the entrance of the underworld until Utu rose from judging the dead. There Shenshen hit Utu with a small nail that caught on Utu's helmet. It went unnoticed until his Zenith where Utu challenged Shenshen to touch his godly form with any gross human instrument. Shenshen however taunted Utu and challenged him to remove his helmet. Utu then saw the small nail embedded within. In his rage he burned Shenshen's home and everyone within. His full rage was reserved for Shenshen however who melted. When it came for Shenshen be judged in the underworld, Utu refused to judge him and threw him out of the underworld, barring him from death.

Shenshen retook control of his melted body where he slowly remade myself before moving somewhere away from the hateful gaze of the sun.

Shenshen's body is synthetic. His whole body is made of a constantly regenerating semi-solid lump of biomass that more or less perfectly mimics the human form. That's simple mimicry however and any shock can make the whole colony collapses and reform.

Disposition: Shenshen has gone through the maws of madness and despair a long time ago. His new form hurt him, but he got used to it. He believed that he was unnatural and tried several times to die with little success. Time heals all wounds however and he got over his despair as well. His ties to his family and friends have been forgotten as well when everything he knew became dust and he came to accept the inevitable passage on time over every civilization.
The only pains that now plagues him is the tedium that comes with being immortal and his original fear of the sun even with Utu gone. Even now he hates the glare of the sun and liked to keep to cold and dark areas.

He is also a relatively sociable person, since he believes that keeping in contact with men was what kept him sane. His philosophy is that he should try to live a happy life no matter what.
Plot Points:
The Kingdom of Ur, Assur, Banks of the Volga River, the Netherlands and the sack of Novgorod.

The catch though is that a character must be first a mortal and then turn into an Immortal. I didn't say 'human', did I? *wink* *wink*

The game focuses around several story arcs. A taste of things to come include the journey of one immortal to a successful suicide... an immortal who asks for your help to find his missing body - living the rest of eternity as a talking head is kind of a drag... A new immortal that's welcomed to the club and needs to go through initiation *evil laughter*...

So on and so forth. The trick is that this isn't linear in the slightest when we jump from one story to the next, so we have the freedom to set the date anywhere. The trouble is that some newer immortals might not be able to participate in the case of setting a story in ancient rome, so I'll try and keep the time periods closer to modern for the sake of all players.

His immortality may be pretty disgusting.

Name: Henri

Gender: Male

Appearance: He's around 1 meter 80 and looks like a pretty unremarkable 30 year old man. He has brown hair, brown eyes and a slightly rough face.

Personality: He's polite and relatively discreet in his day to day life and he tries to remain civil in his day to day interactions. He prefers to keep to his routine and likes to live in a walking distance to a baker.

Disposition: Henri believes he has lived a full and happy life, even with any hardships he might have endured.

This hasn't always been the case, but currently Henri is just happy to live a quiet life.

Plot Points:
The Kingdom of Ur, Belgium, the Netherlands and the sack of Novgorod.
.
That was a bad coincidence. I was pondering death and so forth, and wondered what kind of thoughts might pass the one of an immortal of death.

Anyway, could you rewrite your sheet so it won't feel like you used the same one from earlier? You can keep the concept with some alterations... points to consider are his 'full and happy life' and 'quiet life'. Bonus points to pointing out what is his unique immortality and how he got it, not how it works. It all works the same, pretty much. Imagine being in his shoes... would you feel the same?

Ah, good to know, count me in. Maybe have a requirement that all characters are at-least a certain chronological age, so we don't miss out on exciting time periods? While we're jumping around, it might help to stick in one direction from past to future to keep character development consistent too. Just a couple of suggestions, here's my character sheet anyhow for your review:

Name: Cadeyrn of the Durotriges

Gender: Male

Appearance: At just over 4 foot tall and weighing in at around 62 lbs, to the casual observer Cadeyrn appears to be just an average nine year old boy with messy dark brown hair and pale white skin. His bright blue eyes are full of mischief and he is rarely seen sitting still, or without a cheeky grin. He moves nimbly, albeit with the odd clumsy mistake one would expect of a child.

He doesn't care much about his clothing, it's always in the style of the time period for discretion and usually rumpled and worn. Though rarely seen, he has a tattoo of a triskelion on the right side of his chest to mark his tribal affiliation.

Personality: A sharp and wily spirit, Cadeyrn doesn't tend to form close relationships with other people, preferring to treat interactions as an opportunity to improve his lot, or for his own entertainment. He will only ever help someone-else if he thinks there is something in it for himself. There is little Cadeyrn hates more than being ordered around by another person, mortal or otherwise. He doesn't usually make long-term plans, going along with whatever he feels like doing at that particular time.

Unique Immortality: Cadeyrn was born to the Durotriges tribe of southern Britain and as an infant abandoned in a forest by his parents, unable to feed another mouth. He was chanced upon by a kind Fae of the Seelie Court who as their people often did, took the foundling to her own realm and began to raise him as her own. The young Cadeyrn grew up to be mischievous however and as he grow older, got into worse and worse trouble. Eventually he was caught trying to steal the Queen of the Faeries' crown and brought before the royal court in disgrace. After his adopted mother's impassioned plea for mercy, the Queen banished the young spirit to walk the realms of men as an immortal until the end of days, or whenever he learnt the error of his ways, whichever came first. Until that time, he would be forbidden from returning to the land of the Fae, and from using their magic.

Disposition: Cadeyrn loves nothing more than games and tricks, especially playing the latter on unsuspecting mortals. When he first encountered humans, he despised them for his abandonment as an infant but over the years his dislike has mellowed into apathy. He doesn't wish any particular harm on humanity but nor does he care about their troubles, he just sees them as slow livestock to be exploited for food and entertainment for the most part. He does take great care to avoid local law enforcement, and increasingly as time goes on, child protection services. He has somewhat more respect for his fellow immortals but still has an ingrained distrust of even them.

Plot Points: Britain from just before the time of the Roman occupation onwards. He's occasionally gone to visit other nations, particularly in the days of the Empire, but he always found himself drawn back to the shores of Albion soon enough.

I made some characters, I hope you like them.

loljk

Loljk, not going to make you cry again, Iron.

Name: She goes by the Princess of the Forest, she has no real name.

Gender: Female

Appearance: She is a doe, with a speckled tail and big black eyes. Her hooves are a little chipped but mostly she looks great.

Personality: The Princess of the Forest is a protector. Whenever people are in danger, she comes leaping out out to the rescue. She is especially known to hate hunters of all kinds, and is very protective of children. She can occasionally be seen in the snow, though she also tends to avoid that, bad memories.

Unique Immortality: It was a dark, snowy night. The Princess of the Forest was traveling with her fawn when she saw a bird get shot out of a tree. She realized that hunters were in the area. She had to save her fawn from them, so she ran. While protecting her fawn, the Princess of the Forest was shot. Her fawn continued to run, eventually figuring she died. The Princess of the Forest did not die, however. The forest gave her life eternal and she rose from the snow to ensure the hunters never bothered the forest again.

Disposition: Most immortals don't bother with her, she lives a solitary life and obviously attempts to stay hidden from mortals. She is a deer and a talking deer makes a big scene if found. Still, she is respected by other immortals for generally being a good person. She is also a dedicated herbivore and encourages others to avoid eating meat.

Plot Points: The PotF was located in most forest-based battles that humans have participated in. She likes to drag injured humans out of battles in order to save them from death. Some of these people would grow up to become important naturists. The most important person she ever saved was in WW1, a man in a great red plane had crashed into the forest. She saved him from death, and he chose to live in the forest. Most assumed he was dead.

Alright, here's to seeing more of your fine folk join our game. Lets see our characters so far:
.
PlastikThief said:
Name: Shanna
Gender: Attributed female at birth (AFAB), prefers gender neutral pronouns (They, their)
Appearance: About 5'6, sad eyes accented with minimal makeup, often winged eyeliner. Hair in a bob, straight, dyed purple and grey. Wears casual, baggy clothes, only very occasionally will they wear skirts/dresses. Manicured nails, healthy tan, tattoos along both forearms, gorgon heads to ward of evil. They also wear glasses.
Personality: They are serious and quiet, determined in their immortality to protect the knowledge of the world. Attempts to maintain ignorance about worldly matters but cannot help but get involved, at least as an observer. Difficult to talk to as they never want to hear about your day.
Unique Immortality: Fire Elemental. As a being of sentient fire Shanna cannot die, though in these long yeas they cannot do much else either. They were birthed in the fires of Alexandria and consume knowledge to increase their time burning. They don't want make an imprint so they barely survive, incapable of doing what their race is actually capable of.
Disposition: Intent on surviving at the bare minimum. No intention to interact on any meaningful level. Fluent in many languages, many of them dead or dying. Sensory deprivation is a favorite pastime and kink.
Plot Points: Library of Alexandria, Gutenberg, Italian Unification
.
What we have here is a fire elemental whose favorite past time is getting away from any serious interactions with the world. Has a kink for knowledge and information. Did you say a race? There's a whole race of fire elementals?

I would like it if you created a human who became immortal, or otherwise be more clear when you describe your own character. If it is an elemental, how does it look like a human? Did you mean to say that the human became an elemental? What IS an elemental? (Unless you're talking about Swamp Thing).

It needs work, specifically in explaining the character better.

Looks pretty good. Should work on your appearance more. About the personality... what IS his routine? What doe He like to do (in the Disposition tab) except for getting away from the sun?

I'm getting strong Loki vibes from this one. I also like him being a child in physical size and in spirit, although I wonder how it works when that child had lived such a long, long life.

I can imagine the other immortals would sneer at his mention of a world filled with faeries and his quest to get there, since nobody else but him still believes that.

...Is that...Is that Bambi's Mom? The snow gave it away.

I am not sure how this one would fare in the game. I can imagine a humanoid of some description, having been changed from human to something different due to its immortality, but a talking deer? What would she be called? Princess?

I need to think about this. I recommend you alter the sheet or submit another for consideration. I need to see the full roster of characters before I consider a talking deer.

Unique Immortality: They were once an archivist at the library of Alexandria, until, well the fire, that destroyed it all, including Shanna. Except it didn't. They don't know why or how they survived the blaze but they did, and have dedicated their life to making sure no more knowledge is lost.
Disposition: Quiet but determined, They often work to influence expansion of knowledge. They are big believer in education, (but are upset at the current systems). Fluent in many languages, much of them dead or dying. Sensory deprivation is a favorite pastime and kink. Figuring out how to make sure they retain information while not actually engaging too much in the affairs of others is a problem. They can be somewhat overzealous when confronted with something new.
Plot Points: Library of Alexandria, Gutenberg, Italian Unification.

Good to hear, I imagine over time he would gain knowledge about the world beyond what you would expect for his apparent years but not necessarily the maturity to apply that knowledge like an adult would. Heh, I equally imagine Cadeyrn would sneer at the idea of shooting the sun with arrows ;-)

" You crazy young whippersnappers with your fairies and moms don't know how good you have it! Why, back in my day we had to shoot the sun after going two miles uphill in the dunes! "

It's nice to have a immortal kid. At least someone won't act like a sad petrified lump.

I'm just surprised that no one came up with a some child vampire a la Eli in "Let the Right One in". Or any vampire actually, not that I mind.

Yup. The appearance and personality has been recorded.

If you don't mind me asking when is the deadline or what should be the minimum of players before the RP can start in earnest?

I would like to see more players and I'm in no hurry to begin, so there won't be much of a deadline. In terms of players, I believe that a solid six is a good start, but a few more wouldn't hurt since some would inevitably drop during play.

Name: Gears
Gender: None
Appearance: A seven foot tall, six feet broad, brass robot. Gears doesn't have a head, it is just two leg's and a torso with two arms. On both sides on the shoulders are sets of two horn like holes that go into the body. The large ones are it's "eyes," letting out a low hum, below what most humans (barring young children) can hear, allowing Gears' too "see" via echolocation. The smaller set are it's ears, picking up regular sounds. It's hands end in four long fingers. The fingers are able to feel, with tiny rods that vibrate and go deep within the unknown depths of the machine. This does allow Gears too read braille. It's legs are short but very thick, ending at two large feet. Underneath the brass body is hole mess of turning gears and pistons. Attempts to measure the total volume of just the "surface" level of gears brings about contradictory and non-Euclidean results. The torso is mostly devoid of unique features, although a triangular line does go to the front of the torso, go down to the sides, and meet up with the top of the torso on the other side.

Unique Immortality: Gears is a clockwork robot. Somehow, it appears to be running on some kind of perpetual motion machine. Gears has never needed to refuel or get rewound, never grown tired or otherwise shown a need for more energy. It even has the regenerative powers of most immortals, although it slower. How Gears was created and why is a mystery to it , just as the elusive source of energy deep within the layers of copper and zinc. Gears also thinks it somehow might of been a human, or has a personality based on a human, although that currently is just speculation.

Unable to blend in with humanity, Gears is moved around from one club location to another in some highly modified cars, out of sight of the others on the road.

Disposition: Work in progress.

Plot Points: Gears was "born" in an underground bunker. The place was abandoned, there were was only scrap metal and a few dusty tools left. When Gears managed to dig a hole out, it found itself coming out of a hole on some Italian farm. The year was 1876 After scaring several villages and hiding out in the forest, the Immortal Club brought Gears in.

The immortals weren't sure what to do with Gears. The debate was a long one, unsure if this machine could be considered immortal if it wasn't a biological life-form, or if it was even intelligent enough to understand the meaning of a club. Gears sat, listened, and learned as the debate raged, slowly gaining understanding of what the sounds the debaters were making meant. Finally, Gears spoke, silencing most of it's detractors, giving Gears a place among the other immortals.

Edit: I have respectfully decided to withdraw my submission.
