Listen, I've read your mission assessment. It eventually wound up on our desk, and we think it just might be crazy enough to work. ONI Section III has approved your request and provided you with access to the resources you will need. As for the acquisition of specific personnel, that request has also been granted. Section III will take care of the reassignments and cover stories. In addition, you and your command are now organized under ONI Section III, Subdivision Alpha IV, effective immediately. Your activities from here on out are to be classified top secret. With your new position, you will be granted clearance to access ONI files pertaining to your mission. It goes without saying that such information is eyes-only and given out on a need-to-know basis.

The year is 2547. For just over two decades, humanity has been fighting a losing war against the Covenant, a religious hegemony of alien species determined to bring about mankind's extinction. Countless brave men and women have fallen defending Earth and her colonies, and many more countless innocents have been slaughtered. The outlook is grim. With their superior technology and numbers, the Covenant have glassed every world in their way and continue to move ever closer to Earth. Faced with defeat after crushing defeat, mankind has been forced into a retreat. The specter of total annihilation looms overhead and grows with each passing day.

And extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.

That's where you come in. You are an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (or ODST for short). To put it simply, you are the best humanity has to offer. Dropped through the atmosphere into situations too dangerous for conventional ground forces, you take on the missions no one else will. Your fellow Marines call you insane. The Covenant fear you as a demon. But for you, it's just another day on the job. Long range recon, direct action, counter-terrorism, clandestine operations, nothing is outside the job description of an ODST.

Unbeknownst to you, the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) has reassigned you under the command of Tanner Barret, captain of the UNSC Divine Intervention. He has come up with a bold plan to sabotage the Covenant war effort, and he needs the expertise that only a seasoned ODST can bring in order to do it. You may not know it yet, but you're about to embark on what might be the most important mission in human history.

And remember, dropping feet first into Hell isn't your job. Making sure it's crowded when you get there is.

- All decisions made by the GM are final.

- Explicit control of another player's character without permission is not allowed. However, the GM reserves the right to control characters if necessary to advance the plot.

- Keep track of where other characters are in relation to yours; instant 'teleportations' will need to be corrected.

- Please make your best effort when you post. Low content posts contribute little to the story and are generally frowned upon. Try to keep your posts longer than two lines, if you can.

- God-moding is not allowed. Your character is an elite soldier, but remember that you are not the Master Chief. Make sure your character's actions are within reason and normal human limits; I do not want invincible Rambo characters charging headlong into the enemy dual wielding machine guns.

- Players are expected to keep up with developments in the RP and responding to them if needed.

Role: What does your character bring to the squad in terms of expertise? Examples include (and are not limited to) Rifleman, Sniper, CQB, Heavy Weapons, etc.

Name: Darryl "Buckshot" Simpson
Age: 38, Biologically 29.
Sex: Male

Appearance: Buckshot stands at exactly 6 feet tall outside of his Battle Armor, and 6'3" with it on. He has a strong jaw, a slightly crooked nose, and smallish eyes. With a head of wheat colored hair and hazel eyes. He was CQB battle armor, with brick-red highlights, and signs of extensive repairs made to the left pauldron.

Personality: Buckshot's a fairly warm and outgoing person, he likes knowing about the people he fights with, and treasures the trust and interdependence that is fostered in his units. Though a desire to be tough and macho often get's the better of him. He functions well under extreme pressure, not wavering even when being charge by a Sangheili warrior. He carries out his orders with expedience and brutality, when commanded to neutralize a threat, he does not simply ensure they can no longer fight, he personally escorts the bastard to hell. Buckshot has an intense, pathological hatred of all Covenant. While his hatred has been noted as slightly more intense than the average marine, it has never proved to be a problem.

Role: CQB

Equipment: Darryl's primary weapon is the M45 Tactical Shotgun, his secondary is the Silenced Socom pistol. He carries a variety of special rounds for his shotgun, including incendiary rounds. His kit also included a HUL, for transmitting images when he's taking point, flash-bang grenades, and breaching charges. He's modified his off hand glove to have studs for melee punches.

Bio: Darryl was born in 2509 on Harvest, where he and his family worked on one of the thousands of farms. He was 16 when the Covenent attacked, though he was evacuated, his parents were killed in the defense of Harvest. With his family's farm lost, and his parent's dead, Darryl and joined the millions of displaced peoples who did the only thing they thought they could do, join the UNSC to get some revenge.

In basic training Darryl scored exceptional times on his Kill-House runs, and was placed in the Navy's CQB training corp. After graduating he was assigned to the UNSC Adamant, where he saw his first combat during a Covenant boarding action. He later took part in tail end of the Harvest Campaign, and was a part of urban combat during the Battle of Arcadia. His superiors noted he functioned exceptionally under fire, never lost the will to fight, and was always his CO's first choice to take point in CQC circumstances. He was referred to the ODST Corp after Arcadia and was accepted. After becoming and ODST he took part in the Battle of Rubble, and received a field promotion to Lance Corporal while deployed.

Notes: Darryl earned the nickname Buckshot during the Harvest Campaign, it was given by his firs CO, who liked to nickname people according to their weapon of choice.

Name: Ava "Mockingbird" Carcer
Sex: Female
Age: 24

Appearance: At six foot two, Ava Carcer is very tall, with an athletic build indicative of significant physical training and possible use of growth hormones and other chemical influences. She has narrow blue eyes, light skin and short-cropped black hair, and most notably a considerable burn scar across the left half of her face running from the corner of her mouth up to her temple. The rest of her isn't much better-- a variety of plasma burn scars lace the left half of her upper body, culminating in a missing left arm, replaced by an armor-plated cybernetic limb just above the elbow. Carcer has an exceptionally dry tone of voice and an vaguely Eastern European accent.

Her CQB battle armor is up-graded with heavier armor plating on the torso, pauldrons, and upper legs. Portions of the left arm of the suit are missing, sealed around the cybernetic limb. The armor features orange and white markings on the left pauldron and chestplate. Additionally, the armor features some level of mechanical movement assistance in the legs, arms, and torso, allowing Carcer to move surprisingly quickly even with her bulky armor and equipment.

Personality: Having spent most of her life with the Covenant war looming overhead, Carcer has developed into a cold, merciless, no-nonsense individual. She rarely displays emotion but is driven to protect other humans-- her squadmates, civilians alike-- and seems to take a great joy in unleashing her flamethrower on Covenant forces. Outside of combat, she can seem taciturn and reserved, though much of this is simply due to a lack of socialization.

Role: Heavy Weapons Trooper

Equipment: NA4 Flamethrower with back-mounted fuel tank and overslung 40mm grenade launcher, M6 SOCOM Carbine as secondary weapon, and a combat knife. Carcer is also often equipped with a ballistic shield shaped with a cutout for the NA4, usually attached to the left side of her armour, to further improve her survivability in combat. Her BDU incorporates a modified rucksack to account for the NA4's fuel tank.

Carcer is typically equipped with 8 flashbang grenades loaded in the 40mm grenade launcher.

In situations where the NA4 is inappropriate Carcer is instead equipped with a belt-fed M247H Heavy Machine Gun with ballistic shield and an ammunition canister mounted on her back.

Bio: Ava Carcer was born to a Russian mother and English father on Reach, growing up learning Russian, Hungarian, and English alike. Her father, a UNSC captain, was called to service at the start of the war, leaving the child Carcer and her older brother in their mother's care. Her father was killed in the battle at New Constantinople in 2537 when Carcer was 14. Though she didn't know him, it left a lasting scar that cemented her hate for the Covenant. It was at this point when Carcer, at the time shriveled and weak from a hormonal disorder, was put on growth stimulants that resulted in her eventual height and physical strength.

She joined the UNSC Marine Corps shortly after her 18th birthday and was placed in the Hellbringers. She participated in the Battle of Miridem at age 20, successfully aiding in her squad's retreat while under fire from Hig-yar and Sangheili and killing numerous Covenant in the process. However, she was seriously wounded by plasma weaponry, and after the planet's evacuation was fitted with a mechanical limb to replace the arm she lost in the fighting.

With superiors remarking on her exceptional courage and efficacy, Carcer was referred to the ODST, where her implacable nature, strength, and fearlessness made her an excellent shock trooper and heavy weapons soldier.

Notes: Carcer's choice of weapons stems from her time as a Hellbringer. Though favored both by her training and personal preference most COs insist she uses the HMG instead.

This looks like fun. I have finished Halo 1 and 2 a looong time ago, but I have played Halo 3 and ODST, so I should know enough to get along.


Name: Ryan Callsign: Firepower
Sex: Male
Age: 26

Appearance: Ryan has brown hair, with green eyes and burnt skin. His nose is at an odd angle from when a heavy weapon had recoiled and broken his nose. He is tall-ish, with muscled arms that came from both helping his family with the lumber mill and working with heavy weapons every day. His armour is the standard ODST armour with some extra plating added in. His right shoulder plate is green to show he is a Heavy Weapons specialist.

Personality: Ryan is a smarty pants kinda guy, preferring to make his own jokes at the expense of others. He's not quiet and likes to chat a fair bit. He will usually follows orders he is given unless they would end with either him or a team mate getting killed. He isn't afraid to admit it, he doesn't want to die.

Rank: Private First Class

Role: Heavy Weapons/Defensive Engineer

Equipment: Ryan's primary weapon is a smaller version of the Heavy Machine gun (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/AIE-486H_Heavy_Machine_Gun) which he can carry around, but requires set-up before he can fire. In situations where his machine gun would not be useful, he carries an assault rifle (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/MA5B_Individual_Combat_Weapon_System)

For his secondary weapon, he carries a single pistol, an M6S (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/M6C/SOCOM)

Ryan also carries several frag grenades and some breaching charges and lastly a few EMP grenades, designed to knock out other turrets. Ryan also tries to bring his welding and repair kit if it might be useful in the field, for example if their objective is to defend an area, Ryan would bring it to weld cover together and reinforce barricades. Ryan will only take his welding kit if he isn't bringing his HMG.

Bio: Ryan was born on Earth in the year 2521, so he was still young when the war first started. He was still the young boy, thinking that war was glorious and that he wanted to be a soldier of the proud UNSC. But this idea stuck with him, and when he turned 18 he joined up with the UNSC. He was exceptional when using the heavy weapons, scoring higher than anyone else.

Mostly because he could use the damn heavy things with ease. It kind of came with the fact that his family ran a lumber business, so he was constantly helping move heavy logs around the storage barn. He soon learnt the best way to defend a position with a heavy weapon, and how to use his ammo wisely.

Ryan served mostly in Covenant boarding parties, using his fire power to great advantage in the long halls and walkways. There was one time that a Pelican Ryan was riding in was shot down, landing near an outcrop of rocks. Everyone was mostly ok, thanks mostly to the pilots skill and the flat ground. But the Covenant were closing in.

Ryan had commanded the defence in the rocky out crop, as his commander had been knocked silly and could barely stand up. Though Ryan won what some would call a "Victory" he still to this day calls it a defeat. Out of a team of 12 men, 3 survived. A pilot, the demolitions expert and Ryan. The Covenant had made one last attack that would have wiped out the surviving three, but ODST troopers had dropped into the horde, than had proceed to wipe out most of the Covenant that were in the area.

After that action in the rocks, the ODST took Ryan out of the ranks of normal soldiers. And so began Ryan's training, to become one of those brave but crazy soldiers that all the Marines loved so much.

Notes: After losing so many men after the crash, Ryan hates losing another man, even if he isn't even in Ryan's team, platoon, or even army. He expeically hates losing Marines, because as an ODST he sees it as his job to help protect and fight alongside the lesser-trained but no less brave Marines.

Listen, socialtangent, if we can't both be Heavy Weapon soldiers, then I will change to EDIT: actually, probably an Engineer or something like that, but I would like to be a Heavy Weapon specialist. Again, all up to you.


EDITEDIT:

Would we be able to switch out our kit? Like, she might have the flamethrower, and I will take my Heavy MG, and then she might take her Machine Gun and I might take my Assualt Rifle. All up to you, but I'd rather just stay like this. We could adapt, right? I could go Heavy/Engineer, using heavy weapons in defence and using my welding kit and Engineer skills to help shore up defences and cover?

Name: Forrest Chapman

Age: 22

Sex: Male

Appearance: His armour is gunmetal grey with an evergreen edging to it. His visor is tinted the same colour as his trim. His dog tag is not around his neck, but rather in one of the many pockets on the armour. His pockets are indeed numerous and a knife sheathe is attached near the ankle on his left leg.

He has blonde hair and grey eyes. His hair is cut short, not buzzed to common regulartary standards but short enough that any type of styling is impossible. His in naturally toned, only honed further by the military training received after he graduated school. He's slightly shorter than most people standing at five foot ten, but weighs a solid one hundred and sixty five pounds.

Across his left arm an ugly plasma burn still exists from a skirmish in his earlier days. One of his fingers on his left hand is also mission from the same altercation.


Personality: Forrest is not one to crack a joke, his statue like demenor a regular appearance rather than the relaxed tone that many soliders get after a while. While he observes his superior officers, he does occasionally flare up when a seemingly idiotic order is given. Because of this he is usually dictated to the Spec Ops side of the ODST.

Forrest is loyal to his teammates, placing their safety above all else. His drive to ensure that every man gets home safe is something that has cost him in the past. He has a burning passion and fear of plasma weapondry and tends not to use it unless it is his only option.

Forrest is an idealist at heart, believing in the war effort but not believing in those at the top of the chain, believing that to them, he is nothing more than a pawn to be used. His duty to humanity is what brought him into the army and what keeps him there everyday.

Rank: Lance Corporal

Role: Special Operations. This includes such roles as sabotague, assassination and stealth movements.

Equipment: M7S Caseless Submachine Gun, M6C/SOCOM, 12" Carbon Steel knife with blood groove.

Biography: Forrest was born on Earth and lived there for the majority of his life. His parents both worked factory jobs and so he was taught at a young age the value of hard work and dedication to your job.

However he also inherited one more thing from his mother. A sarcastic sense of humour bordering on the dry side. Once he entered school this caused him no end of conflict with teachers, who saw his sarcasm as a type of rebellion in their ranks. There wasn't a week that went by without some minor snip landing Forrest in dentention.

As he grew older, he learned how to tone his sarcasm down and better yet, learned tact while using it. In his highschool days he became a charmer, using humour and wit as a crutch away from his less than stellar appearance. While he never had himself the prom queen, his natural confidence made him a minor hit with the women.

Having just made it through school with passable grades, Forrest saw a lot of potential job offers cut off to him and having seen what his parents did in the factories, a trade did not appeal to the man. He took the drive and signed up for the Military, believing that defending the world was his calling. He was naive.

He learned quickly that his humour and blatent disregard for authority would not be accepted into the Military. He scrubbed toilets, washed floors and did more pushups than most recruits did in their first year by the time his first couple months were through. The Boss broke him over and over again determined to whittle down the man who talked back a few too many times and didn't seem to take the job seriously. It was a slow process but bit by bit Forrest began to take the military seriously.

He gained the attention of the Brass at age 19 when a small Covenant ambush attacked the convoy he and his team were escorting on a small agricultural planet. They sustained heavy losses, but Forrest ensured that the team and most of the convoy survived by organizing a tactical retreat and simulating a half circle defence. A stray plasma grenade took off one of his fingers and seriously burned his arm and he was taken off duty for six months while it healed. While in hospital, the Brass visited him. He was awarded a Purple Heart and promoted to the ODSTs due to 'grit and determination outside normal calls of duty.'

I'm very interested where this Halo RP goes with its use of extensive use of Halo lore. Anyway, here is my sheet
Name: Chris "Grim" Gannon

Sex: Male

Age: 27

Appearance: Chris stands at 5'11" without his armor, and 6'1" with his armor. Chris' hair is regulation length at 2 and 1/2 inches long and his eyes are bluish-grey. He wears the Sharpshooter variant of the ODST battle armor, and has a maroon color scheme for the secondary color. His armor is always kept clean, and in top condition.

Personality: Chris is somewhat of a perfectionist, always keeping his armor clean, and sometimes even organizing a room to keep it clean as well, however, it has not kept him from entering the ODST. He is always optimistic about a situation, and trying to keep morale up in the squad. However, when Chris looks through his sniper scope, he goes into a zen state-of-mind and can almost not be taken out of this trance until the target is down. Chris is always loyal to his squad, and will do everything in his power to make sure they come home safely.

Rank: Corporal

Role: Long-Range expert

Equipment: SRS99C-S2 AM sniper rifle, M7 caseless SMG, a small cleaning and field maintenance kit for his sniper rifle, 3x flashbangs, 1x frag grenade

Bio: Born on Harvest, his parents raised him not take anything for granted, and to know the value of hard work. However, Chris never really liked the farm life and wanted to see the galaxy. However, between working on the farm and studying for school, Chris didn't have much time to look at the stars and watch holotapes of other planets and stars. Yep, the farm life was pretty quiet, and Chris would take the first chance he got to get off the planet.

As soon as he was 18, Chris went straight to the UNSC recruiting office, seeing it as the fastest way to get off Harvest. He was soon shipped off to basic where he didn't have much trouble, considering his farming background. Chris showed remarkable marksmanship on the range and was able to continue into Advanced Marksmanship training and go to Sniper School. Chris graduated as one of the top of his class, however, nothing was going to prepare him for what would happen next.

Once word got to him that Harvest had fallen, he was devastated. Chris was shipped out immediately to take back Harvest, and as soon as he set foot on the ground, he wanted revenge. Chris soon made a name for himself, with his fellow squadmates calling him "Grim" for his cold, ruthless state-of-mind, when he sighted in with his sniper rifle. Once he was shipped off of Harvest, he felt that he had satisfied his revenge.

After Harvest, his superiors recommended he go to ODST training and he took them up on the offer. After going through the most excruciating training imaginable, he was finally back on the field, however, he had a more optimistic and cheerful demeanor about him. He wanted to make sure that his fellow squad mates would not doubt themselves or each other.

Ok, I have changed my guy slightly, I am going to see if I can change a bit more, but if I do get in as the Heavy Weapons, I won't take a Machine Gun if Avashka is taking her's. It also allows me to pull Engineer role when not using my Heavy Machine Gun. Best of both worlds, right?

It'd be a bit weird to see an ODST soldier running around with a katana...

I always did enjoy Halo for it's story.
Name: Jacob (Jake) Miller
Sex: Male
Age: 29

Appearance: Jake wears a set of modified CQB armor; many of the ammo pockets have been replaced with tool pockets and it features a detachable breath mask, an airtight seal function, is heavily insulated, and will resist radiation. The armor has a grey and navy blue camo pattern. He stands at about 6'1". He has green eyes and dirty blond hair.

Personality: Jake is generally a friendly and agreeable person, but will become serious when the need arises. He is very obedient and will always follow orders to the best of his ability, unless it involves bringing harm to non-combatants.

Role: HAZOP/Combat Engineer

Equipment: MA37 ICWS, frag and stun grenades, M6C SOCOM, tools, digital interface.

Bio: Born in 2518 on Reach, Jake found himself the only child in a middle class family. From a young age, Jake was fascinated by technology. He was also very in to history, and thus came to appreciated his government by comparing it to many of the less just nations of Earths past. This sense of nationalism and technological interest lead Jake to pursue a carrier as a UNSC combat engineer. By the time he joined in 2536, the Great War was already underway. He fought in many battles on many worlds in the inner colonies. It was here that Jake was moved to a Hazardous Operations (HAZOP) unit. In every battle, he demonstrated his skill both with a rifle and a wrench, even when surrounded by the Covenants latest chemical weapon. As colonies fell and the need for better soldiers became greater, Jake was chosen by ONI to become an ODST. That was 5 years ago, and through in all Jake has continued to fight a war that he knows they will lose.

Notes: About 7 months ago, Jake was ordered to a remote site on an unnamed planet. He and several other engineers, all temporarily removed from their units, where ordered to work on some sort of classified spacecraft. The officers that had given them their orders, who never revealed their names, stressed that they where to tell no one about anything they hear of saw. Once the spacecraft was once again in working condition, all the engineers where returned to their previous duties, with yet another warning not to tell anyone anything. Over these past 7 months, Jake's squad has found itself being assigned to extremely hazardous, and often suicidal, missions. Several of his squad mates have died on these missions, but Jake has survived.
I hope my characters duel role isn't a problem. If so, I'll be happy to change it.

Took me a while because I'm pathetic.
Name: Dirk "Reaper" Ashford

Sex: Male

Age: 27

Appearance: Standing at around 5'10", Dirk has blood red hair that always finds itself in an unruly, almost spiky manner, his eyes are a piercing blue.
Possesses great strength, superior reflexes, and has an aggressive drive for success.
He wears a variant of CQB combat armour that incorporates shoulder pauldrons that are replaced by three metal plates arranged in an overlapping fashion.
His helmet is equipped with a CBRN module for operations in hazard zones.
His secondary colour is a deep violet.

Personality: Dirk has an incredible bloodlust only in the midst of battle, he is known for the ways in which he "executes" his enemies.
He has a rather brash view of life, and enjoys taking risks simply for the sake of taking risks. He has a joking nature, but he is actually rather aloof and shy.

Equipment: 2x M6C SOCOM pistols, 1x Flashbang, 1x Smoke grenade, 2x Frag Grenades, 2x combat knives.

Bio: Dirk grey up in an Orphanage in London. His parents had died and he was left on the doorstep of a local house who then contacted the orphanage to have him taken of.
He grew up in isolation from others with a sense of longing and curiosity at other people's relationships.
When the day came that he was allowed to leave the orphanage, he was lost and confused. He had no direction in life. No friends or family. He felt aimless.
He lived day to day, picking up odd jobs here and there, turning to crime when he could get away with it. He became accustomed to the bitter cold and darkness of the night, and also the harsh conditions of being destitute. He became proficient in parkour, and was able to navigate difficult terrain with ease, useful for evading the law.

Then one day he saw the UNSC.

He felt that the army might suit him, and that to have a higher purpose in life, to serve, might make him happy, although it was more the thought of an artificial family that he liked.
He joined that same day, and was put through basic training the following one.
He excelled at every test that was put to him, and thus, he was quickly shuffled into active duty.
He was deployed immediately, and was present at the Battle of Kholo, defending the surface from ground troops.

He witnessed all of his comrades die around him whilst defending a small settlement. This drew him unto an inconceivable rage in which he ended tearing into the Covenant with his bare hands. He then swore from that day forward, to avenge any comrade that had fallen.
He then took each of their combat knives, along with their dogtags, from their corpses.

He managed to get off the world before it was glassed, but he saw the glyph that was carved into it, "Faith". He'd show the goddamn Covenant what their Faith amounts to when they're getting their eyes carved out.
He smelted down the knives of his fallen brothers, blood and all, and crafted for himself a pair of combat knives. These knives he called Faith and Justice.
He was honoured for outstanding valour in the face of battle, and was referred to the ODST, where he quickly rose through the ranks, and refined his skills with his knives, each finding their marks in his enemies.

Appearance: Armour is sharpshooter, with a UA/HUL unit mounted to find targets. Red secondary colour. Physically, John is about 5'9", with brown-blond hair, thinning despite his young age, and eyes that are blue like two chips of ice. He has the image of a poker chip tattooed onto his shoulder

Personality: John tends to be a bit acidic, with a slightly askew sense of humour. When a friend once described him as having a chip on his shoulder, John's response was to get a poker chip tattooed on his shoulder. He is intelligent and focused, but also petty and vengeful at times. He knows that he fallible, and does not want to die. Often noted for being an independant thinker and alarmingly unreadable.

Bio: Born on Eridanus, to a father he'd never see. Said father was in the ODSTs, and was killed in action on Arcadia in 2531. He idolized his father, and swore that he'd make it into the ODSTs. Began compulsory military service at eighteen, and scored second highest at the marksman tests. He was offered a spot in sniper training, but declined, for reasons no one could decipher. In his very first mission with the ODSTs, his squadmate Raphael was murdered by a Kig-Yar sniper. Ignoring the orders of his superiors, John stayed in the combat area while everyone else fell back. The next day when they retook the area, they found him in a ditch, half-dead with plasma burns all over his upper torso. Beside him was the dead Jackal sniper. His sergeant often wondered why he had done it, as he and Raphael had never been close. Since then, he has served admirably, noted for his laser-like precision. He is irritated by the need-to-know nature of this operation.
