Who do you think is the most talented musician you listen to or listened to at one point in time?
For me, Serj Tankian. System of a Down is hands-down my favorite musical group, but their singer/ songwriter is incredible. Not only did he write many of SOAD's songs, but he plays many instruments himself, and has been a part of several different music groups. He has also produced a solo album, and his second one is due for september of this year. There are many other reasons I chose this Armenian musician, but it would take a long time to type them all. . .

I think the most talented lyricists at the moment are Craig Finn of the Hold Steady, Jeffrey Lewis, Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields and Gareth Campesino! of Los Campesinos!

All three are incredibly witty, intelligent, literate and emotional. Extremely quotable as well.
Finn: "If she happens to suggest a love based on trust and respect, tell her I've been wasted since last week"
Lewis: "If I were Leonard Cohen or some other songwriting master, I would know to first get the oral sex and then write the song after"
Merritt: "I had a dream and you were in it, the blue of your eyes was infinite, you seemed to be, in love with me, which isn't very realistic"
Gareth: "Oh we kid ourselves there's future in the fucking, but there is no fucking future"

Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw are too fairly talented musicians to say the least about them. They are probably the two best clarinet players that have ever lived.

How Lil Wayne makes millions and this guy has to perform on the streets is beyond me.

Jimi Hendrix. Prince (but I don't listen to his music), Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), Cliff Burton. That's all I can come up with.

Flea, and he is good. A couple of other really good bassists are Steve Harris of Iron Maiden and Les Claypool from Primus.

Dexter Holland from The Offspring. Dude's a pilot and flight instructor and has once flown around the world in 10 days, and he's got a master's degree in i think it was microbiology or something like that. He makes damn good music as well

Flea is fucking amazing, both on bass and trumpet.

Josh Homme has to be mine, I mean, the guy and his first band pioneered stoner rock/metal, and he is a member and contributor to many other bands.

Currently he is in Queens of the Stone age, Them Crooked Vutlures, but the other things he did are amazing. He started the Desert Sessions project, had played drums on one of the Mondo Genorator albums( I think), Was a touring guitarist for Screaming Trees, contributed to the Eagles of Death Metal works, has supplied guitar and vocals for bands like Mastodon, Bify Clyro, and many others, and the guy has his own record label. Not to mention he was in fucking Kyuss.

George Harrison. All Things Must Pass and Brainwashed are epic songs, and When We Was Fab, This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying) and All those Years Ago are very good.

If you mean playing music, I guess I am gonna have to go with Bucket Head. Not a fan of his songs, but damn can he play a badass guitar!
