Hello Escapist forum,

I'm a long-time consumer of Escapist media (literally and ... the other one...)but first time forum-er. Sorry, I'm usually more articulate; I don't know if there is a word to describe someone who posts on fourms. It's not blogger is it? Regardless, I created this thread to invite anyone to post their ideas about what should be the next big movement of the video-games industry.

We have all witnessed the rise and arguably the fall of motion controls and we are now at the cusp of the 3-D ... thing (again, sorry). I'm sure most of us can still remember the console graphics competition among the big three industry leaders. Maybe you can still remember how innovative the CD was in its time and maybe even the bit-wars before that. We are not here to reminisce, however, the question is what should be the next big idea that will change the industry.

Mind these several, shall we say, guidelines when you post: Please, be mindful of technological constraints, so don't go on a-wishin' for something preposterous like, "video games + jetpacks = AWESOME. It's just not going to fly... get it. In other words, serious posters are preferred.

Deleting console to let the PC master race continue.. I kid
But I hope the games industry allows more freedom for games like Magicka and Capsized to florish.

Forumites, fellow posters, escapees or weirdos. Either one.

What is the next major trend in games without being frivolous? That is a big ask and not one that I expect that I can answer. Possibly some sort of internet video streaming game where people compete to see who can stand out the most in a wall of internet videos. That sounds like something that might happen while not being that much fun at all.

Full length, AAA titles available as downloads.

No DVD's = space saver (the most you have to do is make safe copies on an external memory card for backup's or to save space on the hard drive), quicker and easier for you to get your hands on and cheaper for publishers to distribute. This, combined with no need for a used games industry, will remove the temptation for first day DLC.

Rerelease games that the fans want with jiggle physics. Bam. Okay, thst doesn't count for MOST games, but Guilty Gear X2 and Final Fantasy(Tifa) wouldn't hurt. I know jiggle physics is a immature game mechanic, but I can't help but think my teenage thoughts.
