Hey all!
So i just finished a game of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 and I realised that their "character creation" idea is actually quite brilliant and is something that all FPS's should incorporate...

For those of you who dont know what im on about, in RSV2 how you play determines what you get in your loadout... If you dish out headshots left right and center the game calls you a marksman and unlocks some sniper rifles for you to use, if you make alotta kills upclose and personal then you unlock more shotguns, and every kill you make levels up your "overall military rank" which gives you new armour to wear, more battle gear, better assault rifles etc...

So thats one innovative idea that i think all FPS's should have, real character customisation based on the player...

What other interesting 'Gimmicks' do you all think should become the norm in their respective genres?

I don't like a game to be making assumptions, other than that what I've chosen. No matter if, let's say, I've used pistols for the 90 % of the last 400 frags. It doesn't mean that I like pistols.

There should always be a choice!

I really liked the class-mixing of Titan Quest. You could choose your first class to be a warrior, for example, and the other one to be a cold elemental mage, allowing you to run with a sword and use spells to freeze enemies. You could really mix any two classes. It was done very well.

A dying scene should never take long. I don't want to watch my character die slowly and wait some time without doing anything else than feeling annoyed/frustrated.

If Two Worlds II could make its levelling system a little bit more focused (I felt a hair overwhelmed with all the options) then I'd say that type of freedom should be made available in all RPGs.

Not an innovation, unless you count L4D heal mechanic, which I think is the best of all FPS.

Fair enough, but it is something that I "think should become the norm in its respective genre"

Creative scoring systems should really be in all single player games. It's impossible to play seriously games where scoring well is merely killing a lot or survivng a long time.
