I was just playing the DeathSpank: The Baconing demo and during a fight I thought "I'll stay in front of that projectile so I can use a timed block to deflect it. Oh wait, that's Bastion." They do have a similar isometric viewpoint, so I guess that helped.

In all FPS I stick to the same tactic...RUSH! I guess in fighting games I always go for the Tao style of jump and use speed and pokes etc. But never actually gone into a game thinking "Kay Imma use this tactic...Wait that's (Some game)" If that is what chu mean.

After playing Brink for some time, it was kinda wierd playing a game without the SMART system..
Trying to walljump in BF:BC2 can get you killed pretty fast..

Trying to adjust to any new game when my muscle memory is set to a previous game is an endless recurring problem. I usually need a day or two to acclimatize myself to the peculiarities of the new UI.

BCBF2 I tried to use tactics out of Deux Ex when on a very very open map filled with snipers. I stayed out of sight on a far far flank and... well it worked 5 knifes in a row :D

Switching forward through the Halo series is quite awkward, especially trying to melee with B or reload with X in later games.

Otherwise not much of a problem, as apart from GTA cheats my muscle-memory is rubbish :p

I tried to enter V.A.T.S. before remembering I was playing Just Cause 2, once.

Going from fallout 3 to halo, the first thing I did was press Y, and spend a good 5 seconds wondering why I wasn't jumping.

Also going from Jak 2 to shadow of the colossus, I tried to take out my hoverboard.

Chrono Trigger, first time I played it.

"An old mans lunch huh? Maybe I can pick that up and use that as a healing item for early battles. Huh, no item? Oh well..."

*later*

"OH BALLS, HE REMEMBERED ME!"

Mass Effect 2 during the suicide mission. I had Grunt lead the second fire team because Shepard and the others needed a distraction. This brought me back to my days in WOW and made me think that Grunt would be the perfect tank.

Unfortunately, he wasn't. As he died after that part in the mission.

Don't know if this fits the bill, but...

I once played Halo 3 right after a long session Resistance: Fall of Man. I caught on fire and immediate started to shake the X360-controller to douse the flames. The looks I got were kind of like this: o_O

After playing Blazblue, I always end up trying to instant air dash in SFIV. It does not turn out well.

It's not so much the wrong technique as the wrong input; On day one of the Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta, I tried to Roadie Run by pressing B and melee by pressing R3. I have no idea why I thought the Borderlands control layout would work.

I recently got Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe to rent. I've lost count of all the MK9 combos I've attempted.
I knew some right good Sonya combos too... Okay, they weren't that good, but they worked.
/totally not getting off topic

I manage to confuse Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 things with Street Fighter 4, trying to air dash and launch people and all that crazy Marvel jazz. and stuff. I don't know why on that one, apart from being 2D and having Ryu, they're not similar in the slightest.

Trying to use V.A.T.S. in non-Fallout games is EASILY my most-frequent example of this phenomenon. Probably because I played F3 for longer than just about every other current-gen game combined. I swear, I don't think I left a single unopened door, safe, or metal box in the entire wasteland.

This, you have no idea how many times I hit B trying to get to my inventory in Deus Ex by bringing up my Pip-boy.

I decided to play around in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood a couple days ago, for the first time in about six months, and I couldn't figure out why I was REALLY sucking at fighting the guards. I kept trying to dodge their attacks by moving backwards and pressing A, and just kept getting my ass kicked. Isn't Ezio supposed to do a backflip away from the enemy when you do that?

Oh right.... that's Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask. Oops.

Needless to say, I felt real stupid after that...
