I've been reading a lot of Pokemon fanfiction recently, and it's gotten me thinking. If we dicover another sentient race, and we have the means to actually physically coming in contact with them, would relationships with them (ranging from just friendship to sexual) be ok?

I personally think yes; as we are both sentient races and therefore we are both able to make our own decisions.

You're are forgetting humans are xenophobic. And that they're will be purist among humanity who would want to ban inter speicies relationships,

But I will say to this the same thing I say about gays, if all it takes for you to be happy is to be with a sentient race that isn't human for you to be happy then sure go and do as you please.

Ok, let me just start off by saying...LOL!

If you had said you were reading Mass Effect fanfiction, that would make a lot more sense to me, what with the alien sex scenes and all, but Pokemon??

Just what exactly do they have in these Pokemon fanfictions that would raise a question like this? Ash cheating on Misty with Pikachu rofl!

My take on it can basically be summarized as "Whatever floats your boat". There's potentially perfectly valid reasons to restrict interspecies breeding, but there's no reason to prevent actual relationships (platonic or otherwise). If people want it, there's no reason to stop it.

Pretty much this.

It would be funny if it turned out that they consume their mates after intercorse like some spiders do...

I support it.

Mainly because I really, really like Turians.
Aww, no krogan love? All you humans are racist.
That made me laugh, the all human's racist thing, cause been playing ME2 lately.

On topic: Don't human's already do that? Men and Women are completely different species. Anyways, I'm all for it, though you getting this idea from Pokemon fan-fiction is concerning.

Yeah, I have no life but it's better than 4chan; and I don't have an X-Box. Although the second thing that popped into my head was Star Wars...

No it's not the fact that you're reading Pokemon fanfiction, it's the fact that apparently there are inter species relation scenarios in a POKEMON fanfiction to begin with that makes me laugh. The only thing that came to mind when I read your first post was someone had written a fanfiction about some guy (most likely Ash) having a "relationship" with a Pokemon.

After that I just couldn't stop laughing.

I'm imaging things closer to the whole Tucker/Junior thing in Red vs Blue. If you haven't seen it, Tucker (a man) gets impregnated by an alien in his sleep, and the birthing process puts him in a coma and creates an abomination of nature.

I'd imagine any sort of interspecies breeding would result in something like either a still-birthed thing with 6 arms, 3 legs, 4 penises and a probiscus or a chestburster. I would consider either of those as a completely valid reason to ban crossbreeding.

Sure, if all parties consent I don't care what crazy combos you make for relationships or intercourse.

I've had quite the close bond of friendship with a member of another species (look to your left). But if you're talking about screwing the Green Skinned Space Babe, I'll pass.

Are you saying you'd really pass up an Orion slave girl? Your loss.

I personally prefer "whatever tickles your pickle" but yours is ok too.

I think that it really comes down to whether or not it would be beneficial to our race. I think that if we could breed we would either create sterile offspring (mules and ligers) or it would widen the gene pool making for a more biologically diverse race which is a good thing.

I'm going to lean in and say .... "Yes why not? In fiction."

But if it were ever a reality, I think that modern sensibilities should tell us not to. Afterall, envision a world whereby there is first contact with another race of beings. Would you really want to jeopardize the political nature of the meeting with sex?

I mean lets be frank here, even if there was first contact between us and another sentient race, it's unlikely that we as commoners would ever see them ... so the primary contact between the two races would be a government body of reprersentatives for possibly centuries before any further civil contact was made.

So no o.o in a ropundabout way. It wouldn't be okay for humans to succumb to any weird xeno-sexual lust. As it could have massive implications beyond anything e could possibly imagine.
