As we all know allot of internet memes and viral videos are spawned from video games; ?all your base are belong to us?, ?the cake is a lie?, ?do a barrel roll? I could go on for ever.

Any How Duke Nukem Forever is the first game I?ve played that does the opposite and references a viral video. I'm talking about the "my anus is bleeding" references, a quote from the infamous Don Hertzfeldt?s "Rejected" short film thingy.
Anyways even though Duke is renowned for pop-culture references I found this interesting.

Have you guys heard or seen memes referenced in other video games? excluding the many "the cake is lie" references in other games =P

Play Dawn of War 2: Retribution. Half of the Imperial Guard dialogue consists of Memes.

Strong contenders for the best are "Its dangerous to go alone, take this!" when giving infantry special weapons, or "Drive me closer! I want to hit them with my sword!" when loading a Commissar into a troop transport.

Dragon Age Origons referenced the "Found cake" Penny Arcade strip, but I don't know if that's a meme.
The only other example I can think of is The Simpson's Game... although the whole point of it was to rip off gaming culture so I don't know if that counts.

EDIT: Actually, I remember some from Dragon Age 2. "A wizard did it" (-Anders), "...step 3: Profit" (-Isabella), "I like big boats I cannot lie" (-Isabella again). Prolly a bunch more in obscure character dialogue.

According to Yahtzee that one Castlevania game contained a Portal reference for what it's worth.

3D Dot Game Heroes is so soaked in references and satire of the classic video game realm, so that may count for something.

There's some more obscure ones hidden in Origins as well. Talk to the Chantry Sister in Denerim who inspects artifacts. She mentions people selling Andraste's finger bones, and people worshiping the sandal that slipped from her foot as she was burned.

The finger bone is a reference to the first season of Blackadder, while the sandal worshiping is a shout out to Monty Python's life of Brian.

Well I know in the Blizzard RTSs clicking on a unit multiple times will result in them spouting humorous lines. These can sometimes contain references to pop or nerd culture.

On HALO:ODST, Buck and SGT. Johnson reference the internet quite a bit.
Does a movie reference count, because New Vegas references Fight Club?

World of Warcraft is loaded with these, though you may not always notice them, but often they are thrown in your face. The GTA series has quite a bit of them as well.

I can think of references to other games, for example, the "Assassin's Greed" achievement in GTA4, or "Principessa in Another Castello" from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Or cultural references like the "Heart of Darkness" achievement in Mass Effect 2.

It's always fun when games has 'quirky' achievement names, like the Gears of War series.

As for actually in game, I can't think of specific examples off the top of my head, but I definitely know they are out there. Serious Sam makes a few for starters (just because I've played that recently). Like I said I know there are others too - from games I have played recently - but it's late and I cannay think.

Guild Wars had a few, thinking about it, such as a character called Kilroy Stonekin, who would shout "KILROY....STOOOOONEKIN!" whenever he entered battle.

Blizzard are notorious for it. To be honest some of the funniest from Warcraft 3 weren't even meme references. Including my personal favourite: "What do you mean what kind o' accent is dis? It's a troll accent! I swear jamaican me crazy..."

Yeah, I always liked that about their games. I know most weren't meme or cultural references, but I do remember a few being here and there. The dwarf griffon-rider's "This warhammer cost me 40k!" comes to mind.
