I'm sure this has been done before, but I'm trying to introduce a friend to gaming and am looking for recommendations for games to start her off with. She wouldn't be like any first person shooters or any fighting games like SSB. I'm just trying to find more of the easy to learn, hard to master games. Also, don't mention any of the Portal series since I already decided to use them.

I feel that this is appropriate.

You could try Pokemon, provided she has a handheld system or you can lend her one.

You are so mean, atleast let them start with something easier like EU3.
Find a game that has a similar setting to movies or books she likes.

2D platformers are a good start. Any Nintendo game really, especially the multiplayer games. Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. (Be warned, Donkey Kong is pretty damn hard) all come highly recommended. Wii Sports works too, of course.
If she's a diehard Disney fan, get Epic Mickey. There's some pretty obscure Disney stuff in that one.
On the virtual console, get Chrono Trigger.

As for the 360...no FPSs, fighters, or portal? Is Fable 3's co-op local or online only? Sonic and Sega's All Stars Racing with Banjo Kazooie (awkward title) is a fun racer. It's basically Sega's Mario Kart, but it plays just as good (some say better).

Ps3...I don't have one, but LittleBigPlanet is the obvious choice from an outside viewpoint.

Check out any digitally re-released classic. I suggested Chrono Trigger earlier, but there's plenty that would work for a first-time gamer.

The Fable series is great as a My First Action Adventure/RPG experience. It is super easy and holds your hand.

I hate to say it and my soul will probably burn in hell for it but try WoW.

My missus used to hate games but she tried that and she loved it.

I always find platformers good for understanding how games work, and learning common things in them.

Viva piñata, Sims, Saints Row (lots of girls in my school are into this game and GTA), Fable.
