Hey, I've got an older iPod Touch (2nd gen), and I'm looking for cheap (1 to 2 dollars) games worth playing. It has compatibilities issues with games that are also compatible with the iPad, so maybe not the most recent games are worth suggesting.

Games I have;
- Angry Birds
- Secret of Mana
- Final Fantasy 1 and 2

(I tried DLing Scribblenaughts and Triple Town, but there was compatibility issues.)

Got any suggestions worth exploring?

I've heard a lot of good things about Plants vs Zombies (haven't played the iOS version) for 2.99 (Euros) and Infinity Blade for 2.39.
You should also check out the (even more) casual games like: World of Goo, Cut the Rope, Peggle, Bejeweled etc...

My friend had been playing Infinity Blade and Peggle nonstop... I can't really say for how good they are, but he's a pretty picky son of a ***** when it comes to games.

phone games drive me mad, my wife seems to enjoy the "gem/tetris" games such as bejeweled, card games and of course mahjong.

Wait, Final Fantasy is on iOS? Well, all I want to know is if it's worth the $9.49 AUS. So is it?
The game I recommend is Temple Run (Free), great game thats free, simple to play. It's also free. Jetpact Joyride (Free, apparently) is another awesome game at a low cost. I really love this game, go check it out.

FF1 through FF3, in fact. :)

I had never played the original FF1, and FF2 was out of reach until recent years. It's a step back from say FF6 which has character interaction with its plot. But if you've played FF1 before, it's that with extra dungeons, and remastered sprites. It looks better than FF6 did on the snes (more or less), but it got a little monotonous to me towards the end.

I don't know what the conversion rate is, from us dollars, but I paid $10US for FF1, and I thought I got my monies worth. :)

Nazi Zombies is great fun. Got it the first week of getting my iPod over a year ago, I literally still play it almost every time I want to do portable gaming. It is a bit out of the price range (around $5US, last I checked), but if you're a fan of FPSs or zombies, it's a huge must-have.

Other good games are Tiny Wings, Doodle Jump, and Cut the Rope. In my opinion, Tiny Wings is the best.

I apologize now if any of these aren't playable on your iPod but here goes -clears throat-

Jetpack Joyride (AWESOME game, free of charge)
Squids (described here on The Escapist as Angry Birds meets FFT, you can't pass this one up)
Snoticles
Where's My Water?
Cut the Rope
Fruit Ninja
To-Fu: The Trials of Chi
Coco Loco
Burn the City
Princess Punt (Angry Birds mixed with a fantasy RPG)
Paper Monsters
Adventure Bar Story
Contre Jour
Cover Orange
Ragdoll Blaster 3 (or the earlier ones if RB3 isn't playable for you)

I could name a lot more, but I'll try to keep this short. Basically there's no shortage of great games for the console. I also tried to keep this list restricted to games that are $.99 (Squids might be $1.99 but totally worth it just for being super fun AND having a good story, and Adventure Bar Story I think was only $.99 at launch, it MIGHT be more now, I'm not sure)

Bug Princess first. Not as strict timing requirements as Blissful Death, not super-technical like Espgaluda and Resurrection, and less than half the price of Deathsmiles.

Jetpack Joyride! It's fun, simple, cheap (it may still be free) and the lead character is named Barry Steakfries. That has to be the manliest name ever.
