We live in a magical modern age, where films and games can be downloaded in their entirety in less than an hour, or even streamed as they're experienced. The planet has broken down barriers of communication, with blogs and social networks connecting everyone and anyone who wants to voice an opinion.

And with that, where would we be without software updates? Possibly the most common form of interaction between buyer and producer today, these updates can give improvements to areas that require them, and that was the case with our glorious Apple, who art in California, hallowed be thy stock. Their latest gift to us unworthy mortals, who are too blind by the beauty of its genius to truly understand it, the iOS6 Update for iDevices... Oh, where do I begin?

In a truly innovative desire to allow their followers an easier means of showing penance, data plan charges have increased significantly since the last update, allowing for us to shower Apple, AT&T, Verizon, and all the rest with our meager monthly tithings more effectively. The data plan remains the same, but how much data you use is much larger, despite not using it. All in the plan of the infinite wisdom of Apple, who has met any questioning of the issue with silence.

But understanding, as the Apple who loves us will forever do, and not just be another corporation who needs to meet the demands of investors every fiscal quarter, that this penance is not enough for some, they've also altered their Map system, no longer affiliating with THE ENEMY, GOOGLE. Now, all followers can embark on minor quests, losing their way to an important meeting perhaps, but meeting the way to a more fulfilled, Apple-inspired existence.

However, for some, and I humbly include myself in this, these major acts of self punishment cannot be invested with, as our time is too rushed as it is. That's why Apple, in their continuously infinite understanding, have removed several features from other Apps, for no other reason than they cause an inconvenience. For instance, I regularly listen to a variety of Podcasts, but found the act of pushing the "Get New Podcasts" button and going to iTunes was too easy.

Now, you push the button, are informed you need to download a new app for Podcasts, download the app, enter the app, become overwhelmed by useless information and a badly put together GUI, open a podcast, notice you can't download individual podcasts until you are subscribed via the app as well as on your computer, subscribe, download, exit the app, get a message five minutes later telling you that it can't be downloaded at this time, re open the app, try to restart the download, exit the app, close the app, re open, download again, and PRAY!

PRAY THAT APPLE, IN THEIR INFINITE GLORY, WILL DETERMINE THAT YOUR PUNISHMENT IS SUFFICIENT, AND THAT YOUR PODCAST CAN START DOWNLOADING LIKE YOU WANTED IT TO IN THE FIRST PLACE! AND THEN, PERHAPS, WE WILL BE CONSIDERED GOOD ENOUGH TO ENTER THE BIG GENIUS BAR IN THE SKY!

And if we're truly lucky, we'll be allowed to go back to iOS5, when all of this wasn't so difficult to figure out.

I've never had a Iphone, or Ipad...or...I don't know what it's called, iOS5?

I do have a cell phone though and I use it to call people and text people. I keep it simple. So I buy 20 dollar flip phones. Simple.

In the arms of an angel...ooooohhhh ahhhhh.

I'm too busy letting myself be beaten by Apple programmers to feel jealous

So you buy Apple and you're surprised they have bad service-for-money ratios and screw you over?
I buy Apple and feel happy that they're using software updates they same way everyone does: to either A) fix a broken product, or B) make a product need to be fixed :3

I'm not sure if you're trying to be satirical or serious.

Oh, okay then. Satirical it is.

As for iOS, I don't use it or any other fancy shmancy smartphone out there. I stick to the desktop for all my needs.

Not so; there are places where software updates are pretty convenient. The concept is good in theory and CAN be good in practice, but corporations haven't gotten the memo from programs that do software updates correctly. [sub]And Apple is one of those corporations...[/sub]

For instance, the Linux world is pretty good when it comes to upgrading OSes. If you want to tinker with the OS a little, check out the daily builds. If not, just stick with a long-term-support version. Ubuntu does this, along with many other distros out there.

I remember reading an article on the new IOS map service, the comments section was a brilliant. One guy reported that the town of Southport didn't exist according to it and another guy had the map say he was currently located in the middle of the Irish sea XD.

Apple does seem to be pretty poor with its updates, I've had 3 iPods break on me right after installing new firmware from Apple. Coinecidence most probably but I like to think of them now as "For God's sake stop using your classic and buy an iPhone updates."

Of course the less said about Sony and Microsoft when it comes software updates the better.

This... I'm still convinced that the Flippy Phone was the best Phone I had. It was a phone, and I only needed to charge it bi-weekly. Sucked because I couldn't text with it.

Although, if your industry is technology, you cannot remain on this... So I got a SmartPhone, which I actually don't mind because it's a MP3 player, Map program, manages my bill, and it texts and calls. Which is arguably better than just calls. Although, it is a little weird to have people look at your phone and have them poke around 4 empty pages and one page with 3 icons and a power widgit on it.

I have a flip phone, no bluetooth, no internet, no camera, no wireless, polyphonic ringtone, tiny screen.

And I love it. I recharge it once a month and can text, make calls, (which is all I need it for) and best of all...
