Well?

My free upgrade has come round again and despite my prayers i cant find a phone better than the iPhone. I'm not an apple fanboy in the slightest. I don't like their computers, I don't like Jobs and I really don't like the outspoken fans.

Currently I'm using a BlackBerry Pearl and i have to say, for sms and calls it is the best phone i have ever had. Its battery life is nothing short of god like. But, it throws a wobbly every time i try something online thats out of a wifi zone. And the browser is painfully awful.

I can't work out whether i actually WANT an iphone or if I'm just being really impatient with the other phone companies. Maybe what i really want is an iPhone killer running on Android (I love open source by the way, rocking the lastest linux distro with XP running as a virtual PC for games). Apple just seems to fly in the face of opensource. ITS SO PRETTY THOUGH. God. You people decide for me.

Yeah. I'm much the same (not an apple-fanboy, and those types of people are usually braindead, which makes sense considering the fact that apple makes their products so interface friendly that it makes people like that feel smart.), and I just picked one up. They make those new 32GB ones, and honestly, it's possibly the best digital music player on the market mixed with a pretty great phone. Visual Voicemail? Hell yes.

I like my iPhone. Seems pretty pricy for what you get, but I got it a bit cheaper. While it may not be the best phone, the "community" makes it pretty damn good. No, I'm not talking about the raving fanboys, but about the modding community. You get better usability, better camera, MMS, video recording, a decent sound recorder... You get Peggle! For me, this is what makes the iPhone good. (This requires you to jailbreak your iPhone, though.)

If you want one, and can afford it, sure. Buy one. You'll probably enjoy it.

I say no. I have one, and the battery dies out very, very, very quickly. I suggest either staying with your phone or getting another one that isn't the iPhone.

Just get the regular 3g one and jail break it. Then you can just add all the things the S has

No. There are several distinct disadvantages [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.88365] of the iPhone, and I wouldn't suggest that anybody buys one.
I'm not excactly sure what you meant in your article. If you jailbreak the iPhone you remove, in fact, every single fault you pointed out (On the software side that is). Yet you say that it's not worth to jailbreak?

I've been doing a fair bit of research and it seems the G2 lacks the iPhone's multitouch and really, on a touchscreen i want me some multitouch. Though android as an OS ticks all my open source boxes. If only the hardware was as good.

No, Get a Nokia, for a cheaper price you will get better served
Nokia come directly after apple in my scale of evil. Also, the reviews for the latest models are awful. It seems to me that nokia hasnt yet released a decent smartphone. Basic phones, yes, excellent, but what I'm looking for now is something with a bit more range.

Does it die quicker than a Macbook?

Well the touch screen isn't as good as the iPhone's but that's the only bad thing i see about it. A friend of mines has the G1 and it never crashes and has good service and useful apps. With my iPhone it has crashed about 10 times, and i hate dealing with the people in the Apple store they act like im a baby and can't understand that their phone just plainly sucks.

Wow, so does the battery only last 3 hours.
That's really bad.
I think it's about 4 - 5 hours when watching videos/playing games. Or were you kidding? :p
Actually for me the battery dies in about three hours when im just listening to music in slacker radio and less when I'm watching videos and texting

Well i don't think their phone "just plain sucks" or i wouldnt be thinking about getting one. Im not dealing with the apple store anyway, I cannot cross their threshold without being invited. The physical keyboard on the G1 did make me moist, then i used it. The build quality is just atrocious. I think maybe i don't want a new phone at all, that I'm going to have to WAIT. i hate WAITING. Argh.

Also, bear in mind, this is a FREE upgrade, no extra money, just keep paying what i do anyway for another year. And i get to keep my old blackberry handset.

Really? I think there is something wrong with your battery then. (Either that or I have some kind of super battery :p) I have watched videos for over 4 hours straight (6 hour train-ride) and I still had battery for normal use the rest of the day. (Some texting, a few calls... Checking my inbox, and such)

Like i said it's been crashing alot on me it turns off like it has no battery but when i put it to charge it tells me its full of battery and ever time i take it to the apple store they just tell me to be patient that it's like a small computer so it's bound to do that.
