*warning spoilers*

Okay,
I just beat F.E.A.R 3 ( both campaigns)and both endings seem to have ended the game. The main antagonist, Alma, is dead finally, the brothers past is put behind them, Harlem wade is finally gone and it just seems like every lose end has been tied up.

On the other hand, F.E.A.R is Warner Bros best selling game series , it is monolith and Day One's best selling and most know franchise.

It would be respectful to end the series without dragging it out but will the companys really stop their best seller now?

1. It's a franchise.
2. It's an FPS.

Now as long as Activision keeps releasing a new CoD every year that sell faster than hot cakes at a Jenny Craig's, then all competing companies will continue to push out their flagship title+1s.

I hope FEAR is over. They should have stopped at the first one. Had high hopes for FEAR 3 with the extra development time.

Yes, spoiler tags would be welcome. ^_^

I sincerely hope FEAR ends with this title. It wasn't frightening in the least, no matter what platform I played it on, and I don't get why some say otherwise. You lose a lot of real tension in an FPS when a gun is always in your hand, and when most of those scares are jump out scares or QTEs.

However, let's not forget that Monolith has another series they need to finish: Condemned. I haven't heard anything about the third one, despite that series being better recieved than FEAR was.

You said you beat the game and you think the ending had full closure with no loose ends for a possibly sequel?

I'm having a hard time believing you beat the game if that is the opinion you have.

Hey kids remember in Halo 3, when it was titled finish the fight, and yet its coming back?

Yeah funny thing about milking the cows.... no matter if they dont have more milk to give, just squeze them tittais, and leech the hellout of that sucess till you ruin everything...

NOTICE: im sorry if any Moderator found it offensive, but it is true... in the end no matter how many endings FEAR has it will be back in F.E.4.R, and F.E.A.R.'5s and so on and so on....

I think they got a really good thing going with the multiplayer modes that are quite refreshing to see in a genre that is way too focused on deathmatches, king of the hill and capture the flag. The storyline ends on sequelbait as
either Paxton or Point Man walk out with the child of Alma, the fate of both Jin Sun-Kwon and Douglas Holiday unknown, and Genevieve Aristide still on the loose, presumably.

I think the problem with FEAR is that the name isn't exactly a good choice for a game that has solid, thick atmosphere in some parts but in general isn't very scary. Mostly because you have a large gun and can slow down time to a crawl for half an eternity. That just doesn't make for a good horror protagonist like Silent Hill that throws normal human beings into these supernatural circumstances, not supersoldiers bred for war since their birth. Maybe they could rename the franchise for a fourth title that explores upon the storyline as it is now, with the Wade family plot resolved. Alma is not part of the games anymore and she, for me, was the most identifiable character of each FEAR game and as such calling the next game FEAR 4 would not work without Alma.
But this franchise dead? I hope not. Despite it being not too well received with some critics and not all that scary, FEAR 3 was fun. Damn fun even, and I've yet to play it in Co-Op which I expect to be even more fun. I do hope they make a new game in this wonderfully psychotic setting.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'd probably favor a remake of Condemned 2 to rectify the end fight and Indigo Prophecy syndrome that plagued it, then a continuation of that franchise over a FEAR 4 in the next two years.

Halo 4 called, it asked me to say that yes, FEAR is definatly going to end. There's no way a marketing executive is possibly going to reboot it.

Remember that this is the FEAR universe... I wouldn't bet on Alma staying dead if she was hit by a nuke. I havn't played FEAR 3 and probably never will, but I feel safe in saying that however you killed her, however bullet-riddled her corpse was, however definitely she was not breathing... it wasn't definitely enough.

Is the Fear story good? As in, is it genuinely interesting. I mean, yes, I just had the ending spoiled the HELL out of me, but It's not too bad cause all you said was: "The villain dies, the protagonists live happily ever after". Which...isn't exactly breaking new ground. so that's fine.

But, yeah is the story actually interesting? I'd like to know, cause playing three whole games is going to take a fuck-load of time......

I prefer a reboot, restart it! the whole thing! slap Monolith across the face, too!
Monolith really had something to go with with the original F.E.A.R., the story went to shit in the sequel and was actually less fun than the original.
Note that it's not the first time their stories goes absolutely bat-shit insane, look at Condemned.
Great story in the first one, went completely downhill half-way through the second one.
Day One actually somewhat stabilized the story in F.E.A.R. 3 which was a pleasant surprise even gameplay-wise, the game felt great and played smoothley although 2-weapons limit was a bit shit but I managed to go around it.
So... Reboot it, let Monolith and Day One develop it with an original story.
Hell, let them both reboot Condemned too! It's painful to see such huge potential go to shit due to terrible story that started great.

I have played it as well and finished it with both sides and the ending seems to have left a void for a new game, even though Alma was the main interest in all the F.E.A.R games.

I thought FEAR 3 was terrible, and I think it's over, not in the sense that the story is over, but in the sense that it's finally met it's end as far as quality goes.

I did a review of it, my thoughts are that everything that made FEAR good is now gone.

Haven't played it yet, and I won't have time to before a few weeks, but honestly, it should have ended after the first game.

No, it's not over. And I have reasons BEYOND "They're milking the franchise like they do with everything else."

Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk. I'm not putting tags because this whole thread is already a spoiler. Okay, changed my mind.

If you stay till the end of the credits, there's a scene with Paxton throwing a fit and turning many Armacham guys into red mist. He's then heard, as his adult self, saying, "He deserved to die! They ALL deserved to die! They reduced our family to ashes! (Funny, considering Fettel's ending and what he does to his family). I WILL continue...will you?" So yeah...Fettel's still out there. Remember, he's already dead. So the Point Man's ending in no way says the Fettel is gone for good. Let's also not forget that Geniveve, or whatever her name is, is still out there, and as we've seen there are people in the upper levels of the government who are in on this. There are plenty of loose ends that they can still run with, and now that they've tied F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R 2's stories together (and ended F.E.A.R. 2's), hopefully they'll be able to focus on something better.
On a personal note, I do not believe Alma is gone. No way. In the Point Man's ending, there's plenty of ways for her to come back. Remember, she's already supposed to be dead several times over already yet she keeps coming back. As a child, no less. Something like this shouldn't be a problem for her.
As for Fettel, well...honestly, who is the more powerful psychic? Alma was simply weak from giving birth. I'm betting once she gets her full strength back, Paxton is going to regret what he's done. Alma's going to MAKE him regret it.

It depends on what you mean by interesting. Personally, I love the story in the F.E.A.R. universe. The first game has a twist in it that--unless you already know about it--will cause you to go, "Oh...oh crap." The entire first game is spent with you being in the dark about what's going on, and you don't figure it out until literally the last three minutes of the game--two if you're fast on the trigger.
The second game at first doesn't seem to have anything to do with the original, but it ties in very nicely. And the ending. The ending will haunt you and to this day is still the most disturbing ending I have ever seen. Not disturbing as in, "Ew, that's gross blood 'n' gore and all that," but truly, "Did that...did she? Oh my God...who comes up with THAT?!"
The third game ties the first two together rather nicely, it's just that the plot had gotten a little off course with 2, so the third game's story suffered a little because they had to get it back on track.
My suggestion: See if you can track down a copy of F.E.A.R. and give it a go. You'll have to be paying attention to get the entire story (track down phone messages and computer files), but it's an old game so you should be able to find it at a cheap price now.
