-Played the demo, I liked the gameplay.
-I like games where I make my own character, the demo implied this.
-The only RPG who's story I've ever loved is FF9.

Here's the deal folks. I want to get back into working out. Doing a lot of cardio. You what I find is the best thing to do on long walks? Play RPGS, because they're turn based. Now I don't feel like playing another Pokemon game so that leaves this.

Without spoilers, is this games story as long and as good as Final Fantasy 9? Is it worth spending 40 dollars on?

Well I can't really compare it to Final Fantasy 9 since I haven't played that game, but Awakening? Sure, it's a pretty damn good game. I'm playing it through for the second time now and having a blast.

Story-wise it's pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking by any means and some of the filler characters are just that: Filler. One-dimensional cardboard cutouts that generally consist of sticking to one character gimmick. But the overall cast is pretty strong and enjoyable and the plot is definitely satisfying.

So sure, go for it says I. It's a good game. And yes you can make your own character as well as choose various romance options and whatnot, which is a neat touch.

YES, mostly because there is a lot of stuff to do, interesting characters, a decent plot, and some fun ways to tailor your army to your style.

Well it's primarily a turn-based-tactics game. Go in expecting a story focus and you're probably going to be disappointed.

Well I paid $40 for it a year ago. Wouldn't say it's worth that now though. It's great, but it's also a year old.

Yeah.
The story is garbage-tier even for videogames but the characters themselves are charming enough, and the core gameplay is really fucking solid, had a lot of fun in the general battles and perfecting my characters was more addictive than it had any right to be. Keep in mind it is a turn based stat driven SRPG though so if that's not your thing you won't like it.

Oh hell yes. It is a FANTASTIC experience from beginning to end, and I have completed the game 3 times, with each play through lasting around 80 hours. Even then I still missed a good chunk of the content. It has a fairly steep learning curve though if you're unfamiliar with tactics games, especially if you're playing on the perma-death classic mode, but its worth the time to learn.

Tons of ways to manage your units, pretty good story, awesome characters, and the 3D is actually really awesome.

The story is probably the weakest of any Fire Emblem released stateside.(Play the Radiance cycle if you want a really good story in an RPG.) It's passable.
Gameplay is solid with some annoying changes for the series.

Yes, I would say defiantly. I actually am in the middle of playing it now. I've tried other fire emblem games in the past and could never really get into them because of the whole Permedeath thing. But this is the first game where you can turn the permedeath off.

Speaking of which, the story is alright. Evil king, zombish monsters, amnesia, you know the normal stuff. The real thing that keeps me playing is the little relationships that build between the characters when they battle together. It allows the more one note characters to become a little more fleshed out.

The battles are pretty fun too. I've been more of a casual player of turn based strategy games in the past, but I really love the gameplay in this game. I would really recommend this game.

I have a few pet peeves with the game.

Fathers having no real bearing on their children; they have bland, recycled support conversations. Also, Classic mode has no real bearing on the storyline, which gave me no real incentive to play it. And my god, THE FEET. Or lack thereof.

That being said, it was a great game, and I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd try to get it used if you can, though.

The game came out over a year ago, so you shouldn't be paying 40 bucks for it. Otherwise, yeah definitely buy it.

Personally I loved it, and sank more hours than I'd care to admit into it. Was actually thinking of playing it again on the hardest difficulty.

So if you like the gameplay and characters then I see no reason not to get it if it's under consideration.

Not really. Depends on if you require any kind of challenge from your games. The difficulty is hilariously broken, even on Hard Classic (I haven't played any higher than that). There is little to no benefit on many missions to take anyone besides your most godly overpowered characters with you. I'm not very good at these kind of games, but I can solo half the story missions with only the main character and a buddy. Strategy quickly becomes pointless because you can just send the main character in to stand in one spot and kill everyone, which is the most boring thing you can imagine. I began to wonder after a while if anyone actually beta-tested this game.

Buy Devil Survivor Overclock instead. I'm playing through it right now, and it's a pleasant surprise. The difficulty is a lot more balanced, and it's a lot more fun overall.

Yes, the gameplay is the best version of the franchise (making support easier and so much sense when paired character can help one another in battle), has great character and alot of replay value especially if you used the streetpass alot (make your team better to beat the other streetpasser teams!

If you like Fire Emblem, you will love this game. It also has a lot of replay value and interesting street pass features
