I dont know if there are many who share my plight but I doubt (and hope) Im not the only one

Im talking about those who internet situation is less than perfect,

I think it definetly has somthing to do with australia our interent here just isnt up to standard ,however I think there are probably australians who have interent sufficient for all their download/online gaming needs, it just seems that internet is expensive

Now I dont have a problem with online activation,I can cope with that my current situation is 6gb a month (I seriously envy anyone who dosnt have to take notice of every youtube video they watch) but steam...thats a real ***** of a program if your internet isnt fast/unlimited now I can usually afford the 250mb Usually required for a new game

but its a real pain if I get a game a few years late, Just got left 4 dead I dont know if Ill be able to play it anytime soon (1900mb is a large price, and team fortress 2? I really wish I could play it) I dont know where ill find all that internet plus I can't access the joys of the steam store

also DLC just isnt an option unless you get it with GOTY

anyway I know this is jsut my situation, I hope when I become a little more independant I can get some decent bloody internet

I feel for ya buddy, also being an Australian Thoroughbred i agree that our internet is substandard, and over priced. I don't think it will go down anytime soon thought... that is what really sucks :(

Even with that fibre optic network that will probs be cancelled due to flooding, it is going to be a bad Internet situation for along time =/

yeah our internet isn't brilliant but it's better then China. With Gillard in Government The National Broadband Network is underway (IBM should sign the contract soon) this will have our lines upgraded by 2013(I think).

I get unlimited ADSL2+ from TPG for $60 a month. I'm happy with it.
I'm with TPG as well. From last time I checked I'm in an area that doesn't have requirements for ADSL2+ yet, all the areas circling me seem to have it, it's very, very annoying. I'll have to check up on that.

But yes, Australian internet is shit, but I'd rather have it than China's... So I guess we can feel better about something :p

There certainly are options. I get a terabyte monthly limit with Optus, it's ADSL2+ and it includes line rental, all calls to mobile phones (any network) and all national and local calls for $120 a month. Given my wife loves to talk, talk, talk it works out pretty good for us.

I find the internets not that bad though it does have the odd day when it wants to go slow as all hell or just doesn't want to work at all -_-

...and that includes line rental if you must have a land line (I must).

Not bad, although it is a bit faster tonight than usual. I used to hate Steam until I switched to this plan.

There's noting really wrong with the price and and amount of internet us Aussies get, it's the speeds that are horrendous. And God only knows how long it will take the National Broadband Network to be completed. That is if the Liberal Government doesn't come in and ruin it.

I mean, look at this shit:

What a disgrace.

I do feel for you guys. In the UK, there is such a price war and no limits, so at the moment, I pay £30 (about $50AUD) for line rental and unlimited usage for upto 20Mb (I get 11 normally, so that's not too bad).

It's the caps that I worry about for you. Did you see what they tried to do in Canada last week? I bet they'll try something like that with you guys next.

Better than me, if the check was correct I'm currently getting a Download rate of 0.48Mb/s

Australian internet is terrible, I suppose we can only hope that the Broadband network will improve things.

In Norway our cable based internet is always unlimited.
Over the air though...think its about 5GB.

I feel for you though, i'd do some serious damage if anyone was to restrict me.

Not that i download much illegally either, i'm an active member of Genesis, Rush and Zeppelin bootleg sites.
Which is completely legal.

Depends on your distance from the local exchange. The one nearest to me has 6.3 KM of cabling between us. Means my internet is a bit slow but I get good quota anyway so I'm not complaining.
I think we're in the 5 KM radius or just outside it. Max download speed is about 350kB/s. I guess it's good enough.

I guess you could make the argument we should develop more infrastructure to raise overall internet speed but I think that's money better spent on healthcare and education, stuff that isn't so much of a luxury.
Once they start hooking up the NBN over the next few years I'm hoping for some good change. Even if it's only minor.
