Is it THAT bad?

I've noticed that tons of people diss WoW and games that are played a lot like that, and it's really offensive to the rest of the folk who DO play it. I mean, I hated on WoW until I played it, then it seemed to me like a good game, asides from the fact that blizzard is making us cough up serious cash to play.

Another one that gets dissed in general are the table-top RPG's like DnD. It may be boring, but it's actually pretty fun!

just because it happens a lot doesn't mean it should be dismissed. but it is true that people will hate something just because of its popularity.

Spoken like a person that has never played... It takes no skill to hit max level, just like it takes no skill to grind levels in any other console RPG. If want to get past the first few end game raids, you gotta be VERY good. Sadly, most people suck.

So, in essence, you're now hating on people that were just like you before you played WoW?

Seems like you'd know where those people were coming from if you used to be one of them.

Besides, if those people have never played WoW then they have no basis for an argument, which makes them null and void when it comes to affecting how you view the game. There is always the contingent of people that will hate whatever is currently popular, simply because it IS. Just a fact of life.

I can see how WoW could possibly be fun with firends involved but the game play is so boring and simplistic, I couldn't get into it. Maybe its just because I only played the 10 day free trial but it was just too boring for me. And as for getting offended by people "dissing" the games you like should it really matter what they say especially if its comming from a complete stranger. If you like a game or anything else in general then the opinion of some douche bag shouldn't get to you.

From what i have seen most people dont attack the game on its own merit. They criticize the game for the amount of time and money people dump into it and how it "steals your soul", reffering to how consumed people become by it. I have first hand experience of how into WoW people get, i used to play with my roomie but i couldnt keep up. He was pouring 100+ hours a week into the game and i simply had other shit to do. Its a good game, thats why its so addicting if you have the time i say go for it.

I pretty much agree with every word of this. Sort of how everyone just hates Halo because it's the thing to do. Some people have never played it an still hate it.

I find MMORPGs to be a little stale in general. Gameplay is lack-luster and tedious. I am big on collection, crafting, and exploration. But collection is either done through heavy grinding, or fighting with players for scant resources. Crafting nowadays has a bit of a tacked on feel to it. And exploration is severely limited by level.

Then there are the people who regurgitate :Oh, it'll get better after xx level." If I don't like the game now on it's basic merits, I'm pretty sure I still won't like it if I work to that point.
