My ps3 just died on me, last game I played was SSX

Are there any exclusive titles worth paying full price for given that it's near the end of the ps3 life cycle?

Maybe I should just PC game until PS4 comes out

Well, that really depends on what games you like to play. I'm personally looking forward to The Last Guardian and The Last of Us. Also, PS3 aren't that expensive these days, if you go for one of the cheaper models. Also, I'm not sure if you're the type to replay games, but I'll assume that you have at least a few PS3 titles and if you buy a PS3 now, you'll still be able to play them down the line. There's no guarantee that the PS4 will have backwards compatibility, like the current generation of PS3 can't.

I would say it really depends on your gaming habits. If you used it a lot, I see no reason not to get one. There is no guarantee that the PS4 will be backwards compatible, also we really don't know how long of a wait it will be for a PS4. If you are ok with your PC I'd say stick to that, for a while. It is possible as well that the closer we get to a new console, the lower in price the PS3 will go, so maybe wait and get one cheaper.

If cost is a real issue, then just get a used/refurbished model. I don't think it's fair to state that the PS3 is at the end of the life cycle. It's not like the PS4 has even been announced yet. Are you sure you can't get it repaired? I'd say explore some more options. Or hell just wait a little while and I'm sure you'll find a deal online for a new PS3 for cheaper than what it is now.

in fact, I remember reading that Sony explicitly stated that the PS4 will not be able to play PS3 games. that said, a new PS3 is pretty cheap (at least compared to what it used to be) and will be the powerhouse until the WiiU, and even then it will still be another year or two until the next Xbox and PS consoles.

If my ps3 died I would probably just stick with the PC. Then again, depending on the cost & features, I'm not even sure I'll be getting a ps4 (or any console) next gen either. In this past generation, console gaming has become more and more inconvenient while pc gaming has become less and less inconvenient.

If you feel you really need one, I would wait a little while. I have a feeling it's going to have another price drop soon.

PC gaming for the win. But,

No. It's certainly not too late. There's a huge library to pick from now, they're not going anywhere. Not to even mention there's still new games coming up. It also seems that games generally become better at using the consoles' full capabilities to the best, the later on the console's "supported lifespan" they are released.

No. It's not even too late to get a PS2, because games don't deteriorate over time.

Really, it depends how many of the exclusives you've played already, and how many of those you haven't still appeal to you. There are some excellent games coming up in the PS3's future - some exclusive to the consoles and some exclusive to the PS3 itself, most notably The Last Guardian and The Last of Us - and you'll miss out on them by sticking to the PC and/or XBOX360.

I was in a similar situation to you not terribly long ago. My PS3 had broken just few days on the wrong side of the warranty and they wouldn't hear of replacing it. I was so angry I swore off replacing it, but it wasn't long before exclusive releases stacked up, and upcoming games looked so great that I just had to get another.

I feel that if you can name five or more games you want to play on a PS3 that can't be played elsewhere, that justifies buying a new one.

well, I suppose when the next model of PS3 comes out, the current model will go down in price, so id wait until then if you're not that desperate to get one

End of the what now? So, the PS4 is less rumor and more cold, hard, release date, now? When did that happen? Also, why would it be too late, in any case? It's not like there are plenty of working emulators for the current gen, so you'd need the system anyway if you wanted to continue playing the games you already have. You can find them pretty cheap these days, anyway, and it's library isn't going anywhere.

I would say buy another ps3. You still have all of your ps3 games and if you want to play them in the next year and a half you will need one. I dont think there will be any amazing ps3 exclusives coming out but there will probably be some good console exclusives coming out before the ps4.

Plus a ps3 is not actually very expensive right now. I just replaced mine a couple months ago due to somebody being an idiot. Also I may be biased because well I think PC gaming sucks donkey balls.

Yea I highly doubt that since Sony hasnt actually said anything regarding the PS4. There has been zero official information released and sony does not comment on rumors.

here is the article, but even without a confirmation from sony, its not surprising that they won't be able to easily emulate the 7-core cell hardware on their next machine.

Holy fucking shit man a random article on the internet says what the ps4 specs are. That has to be true since we all know there isnt twenty other articles about the exact same fucking thing that all contridict each other.
you know, there is a big difference between wild speculation without evidence and a conclusion based off of some knowledge about hardware and software from previous generations. i'll be very surprised if the PS4 will be backwards compatible with PS3 discs just from the hardware emulation, regardless of what an article says. the article just means i'm not alone.

I like to keep a small collection of games that I feel are the best the console has to offer. I'd buy another Ps3 just to be able to play the games, same reason I'm trying to buy a spare ps2.

My PS3 died on me recently too, and I replaced it as quick as I could.
So yes, get a new one. You still have all your PS3 games, so it would be a shame not to be able to play them again.

There are some exclusives on PS3 (many of them HD remakes of PS2 games) but i'm waiting on the budget redesign before I buy one.

I've got too many games to play as it is so i'm in no rush
