Is it worth getting Quake games on PC?

I know that Quake Live is free - does that mean I'd be wasting money on Quake III if I got it just for multiplayer? Do people still play Quake III?

Quake3 was almost dead before quakelive came out. Now that quakelive is out it is almost certainly dead. If you're interested in quake3 then just get quakelive, it's almost exactly the same game.

QuakeLive basically is quake3 to a tee.

Quake3 is only worth it if:

1) You have some local friends who really want to play Rocket Arena

2) You are highly into the trickjumping mechanics of the game and want to play the Defrag mod.

Other than that, just play QuakeLive.
