I don't think it is.

It has descended to the levels of being a complete joke of which developers fanboys have the most twitter accounts. Can we please not have March Mayhem next year escapist? at least a replacement?

It's not because it's good for gaming, it never has been.

March Mayhem is like Christmas for Themis Media Inc. traffic figures.
They are also highly protective of what these figures are.

It's free and you might win something out of it. I don't see the problem. Sure it's a silly popularity contest but I don't see how it could be negatively affecting gaming as a whole.
Damn you Majong!!!!

No, not in the slightest. It actually causes nothing, but trouble in my opinion. Even if you don't wanna take part in it, you can't avoid it, especially now that the Escapist is posting our scores on our account names.

That said, this has been the quietest and most boring MM of all time.

Bad for gaming? Good for gaming? It doesn't affect anything, so I don't quite get your question.

For a guy who joined March 1st, I don't think you should be.... never mind.
This is exactly what I thought, and left the thread without posting, thanks for wording it in a way thats not extremely offensive, as I would have.

I've been wondering about this. This will probably make me seem a bit thick, but what exactly IS March Madness?
its basically a big competition where people vote for their favorite developers which eventually ends up with one winner

anyway I dont see it as anymore harmful than a bunch of people raging over a game on the forums, annoying yes but not exactally harmful for anything

anyway personally I found it to be quite fun, it was my first time anyway

Umm.. whilst there are no dumb questions... this one is a bit concerning...

Its a thing that this site hosts where the fans (gamers) vote on different developers to see which one the community thinks is the best. Its nothing important really, but it free publicity for almost every developer out there, and free publicity for the escapist, and the sponsor of the year, which happens to be Alienware this year...

I don't think it's necessarily good for gaming, but it's not bad for gaming either. It's just something fun that Escapist does.

I agree, especially since it looks like a company that created only one game is considered better than the company that brought games back after the crash. Actually, I don't even think Minecraft is a game! If it is, then so is PhotoShop!

It's a popularity contest unfortunately and indeed you'll get developers who haven't put out anything good for a long while doing well just on reputation alone.

*coughs* Nintendo *cough*

I don't think it hurts gaming in anyway. I haven't seen any effects of it in the industry or in anyone's personal gaming habits. In terms of if it's a fair race...
