Is marriage worth it?

Oh wow, talk about over thinking about it. But this can pretty much sum it up.

Dude, as big a deal as marriage and divorce is, you better do some serious fuggin thinkin! Otherwise you're looking at a bitter married and divorced life.

marraige is both a holy union and test of love and patience.sadly,people have little patience and understanding,making most marraiges end in divorce.but if you truly love the person,it's worth taking that chance.

there's some truth, but again, one gender doesn't have anything to lose compared to the other.

Marriage means you get to spread your genes and raise kids, have regular sex, have someone clean up after you, have a girl to love and snuggle with forever, so its good

you can have sex without marriage, but the big mistake many guys make is they think the sex won't stop. There's been countless stats that show marriage is a ticket to a sexless life, leading to infidelity.

But I think more people need to take it seriously. Could they REALLY see spending their life with this person? No? Don't get married. 'Cause if you can't see it NOW, you SURE aren't gonna see it later. Don't waste his/her time.

Just on the "What makes you think you deserve a good woman?" point. Too many times I have heard women going on about how they want a rich, handsome blah blah blah man and how they only deserve the best. Then you look at these chicks and they are fat, ugly, stupid, no skills or talents. Basically if their dream guy came along, he would not look at these women twice.

But anyway, marriage is a fucking joke. What is worse is now these de facto partnerships. Where if you bang the same person for 2-3 years in a row then they are entitled to half your shit (or at least half the stuff you got within those years) so say you were saving up for a house then after you get with her you buy the house, she lives with you in that house, even though she is putting no $$ towards it. If you break up even if by her cheating on you, she is entitled to half the fucking house.

I'm warning you, you better edit that sexist gem out before nil catches it.
You'll be in trouble then.

Being critical of women isn't sexist. He swore more than I did, but its a big thing that guys get angry about. Like we're told we're lucky if we even get a woman to marry us, and to shut up and deal with the fact that men have more to lose in a divorce. It's zero risk for one gender and that's wrong

Well I think the biggest issue is that most people these days are getting married waaaaaay too early and without an adequate understanding of what they're getting themselves into.

As for me, I've always looked at marriage as a bond between two people who deeply love each other. A union of equals, if you will. The rest of the details regarding the roles of husband and wife etc. can be worked out by the two making the bond.

As a married man who is joined up without a pre-nup, I am technically in 'danger' of all those bad things you mentioned in your above wall of text. But am I afraid? No. Just because someone *can* do something to you, doesn't mean they will.

If you are in constant fear of your special someone departing with half of your stuff and your next decade worth of paychecks, then there isn't the bond present to get married in the first place.

Many women today are taught, whether implied or explicitly, that sex is a tool to get men, and once you get them and pop out a little 18-year annuity or two, then they don't have to ever have it again.


Oh, and saying something critical and truthful about a woman or women in general is NOT sexist, but they will play the begreaved minority card faster than you can say the Ghost of Johnny Cochran. As the sexual assault organization on my campus likes to spout: "Men are at fault for everything and don't you let them forget it!".

well I can tell you that your pre-nup will most likely mean nothing in court, and if you move to a state you didn't file it in, its basicly worthless.

and how would you know the bond isn't there? it's completely normal to be wary of a risk that can ruin your life, and to ignore it because things are good at the moment shows a lack of forethought.

besides, you found a woman you love who agreed to a pre-nup, and I wish the best of luck if you ever need it.. I can find a woman who doesn't need a piece of paper and a rock to be in love or have a commitment. This isn't the 50's after all

Not precisely what I meant. There was this cool survey we went over in AP Psych and it pretty much said that if the choice of marriage is made emotionally, not logically, it had a better chance of being successful. Although granted that could pretty much mean that hopeless romantics get divorces more often. ALSO people who move in together before marriage divorce twice as much. But that's off topic.
