When I started playing Minecraft I was happy learning new recipes, the updates were useful, and ideas ran wild. I had fun on servers, got to know new friends, (who I still know 2 and 1/2 years later) and I fought my enemies with a ferocity lost in days past.
Nowadays I wander about that same gutted server with nothing more than nostalgic memories and lost ideas nagging at my sides.
What happened Minecraft?
All the recent updates are just useless with so much effort given to enchanting and spells; no more incredibly useful stuff like pistons or dogs. (Maybe cats and carrots on fishing rods) my point is that there is now so much useless stuff on Minecraft that it leaves older plays with a longing for the "good old days" when each new update brought something that would radically change Minecraft forever.
Stop updating enchanting and brewing Minecraft, get back to what really makes you fun.
