Is New Vegas drastically better than Fallout 3?

I've been deeply considering getting my hands on a copy of New Vegas recently. Probably that damn peer pressure or some shit that's made me want to. The reason is irrelevant, I just do actually want to experience this game.

But here's the problem. I wasn't really a fan of Fallout 3. It was an okay game, I guess. But I just could never really get into it enough to become properly immersed and really interested in what was happening.

So here's my question: if I wasn't particularly fond of Fallout 3, is Fallout: New Vegas worth my time and money?

P.S: I can't rent it first cause I don't even KNOW where the nearest game rental place is from where I live
P.S.S: I can't borrow it, cause all my friends have PS3s and/or hate Fallout, and my brother (who does have the game) has been an evil spiteful **** ever since I hit him with that baseball bat.

Not really, it's more of a "If you liked Fallout 3 then you will like....". But as you said, you didn't LOVE fallout 3 so you'll probably end up sick of it.

Can't possibly imagine why he is being a spiteful ****.

Anyway, from what I heard (I am in the same prediciment as you (aside from the baseball incident), can't decide if I want it, but I never played Fallout 3...) it is similar to Fallout 3 in leveling and the general feel of the game (graphics, gameplay, etc) but it includes an actual city and ironsight aiming. And it is buggy. That's the only differences I've heard of.

Not drastically, but to a fan of Fallout 3 it is considerably better. of course, if you didn't like Fallout 3, New Vegas isn't for you.

I say wait on it for a while until some of the bugs in the game are sorted out.

For now I say "no". You'd be better off buying a few DVDs with the same amount of money.

Its about the same. Yes it does have its differences but it is basically an expansion of Fallout 3.

I do enjoy New Vegas's sense of humor and a lot of the other additions to current gen Fallout.

I do wish it had a higher level cap 30 just seem a little low to me, but who knows the level cap will most likely be raised in the DLC

but overall I am enjoying NV as much as I did 3 so I kind of look at them like I do the 64 Zelda games as two parts of one super game.

If you didn't like fallout 3, then I don't think that you'll like Fallout: New Vegas.

Uh...No, it isn't...

It barely has anything to do with Fallout 3.
It's more related to Fallout 1 and 2, seeing as there are some of the factions from Fallout 2 in New Vegas.

FallOut 3 is definitely one of my favorite this-gen games. So much so that I even traded in my CE version for the GotY version just so I could play through it a fourth time with the expansions.

That said, I'm not getting as drawn into New Vegas. I like it, just not as much as I did FO3. Not sure if it's cause I don't have the time to game like I did two years ago or if it's cause the game feels repetitive of the prequel just with some "who cares" elements thrown in like ammo stations and hardcore mode. Still glad I bought the game.

Exactly the same here. I thought I was the only one.

Try saying that to the folks at no mutants allowed. Many of them really like Fallout new vegas but absolutely loathe Fallout 3.

Okay, how does New Vegas compare to games like Fable 3, or Oblivion, or stuff like that? (i know different thing, but still RPG).

and btw, the baseball bat thing was an accident, to be fair.

I liked the idea of Fallout 3, I just couldn't get into the game itself. Everything just felt so brown and hostile after a while, I didn't enjoy it much.
However I am having a blast with New Vegas. All the RPG-ish stuff has been improved, and it's much brighter & more populated, factions, much better dialogue (I'm surprised at how much companions have) - I can talk my way into alternate solutions for problems if I want, rather than crawling through yet another sewer tunnel while everything tries to kill my ass in the dark.
It is pretty glitchy though, and good god, the radio stations should have more than 5 songs to play. Really, it depends on exactly what you didn't like about Fallout 3, and what appealed to you enough that you played it in the first place.

Wait, you DIDN'T like Fallout 3??? I mean, I wouldn't recommend New Vegas if you don't like Fallout 3, but seriously, play through the 3rd again! You must have been distracted or something, because that game is a work of art!

Its not that much better than Fallout 3. It adds some new feature that make New Vegas more fun, but unless its on of those features that is the deal-changer for you, I doubt that you'll enjoy New Vegas if you didn't like Fallout 3.

It was nearly as good as Fallout 3, but probably equally fun. See, New Vegas is a bad game, but fun as hell... Kind of like Garry's Mod or something like... it's so weird and glitchy but god DAMN is it fun
