Is pokemon still cool? + What's your favourite Pokemon?

I was looking at some of the replies to my earlier thread on gaming reality and then it struck me: Is Pokemon still cool. Many people said they would love Pokemon to be real. Is it still cool? Apparently the TV series is still going!Also what is your favourite Pokemon, mine is Pikkachu as it was so cute!

This. I could probably still name the whole first 151, but the series started sucking at gold/silver.

I played it for the first time ever a few months ago and I was surprised it didn't totally suck (I played LeafGreen just fyi.) It's a neat spin on the typically jRPG, although the fact that you pretty much have to buy a guide or print out a sheet from GameFAQs just to see what all the elements are and how they play off each other is really annoying. I mean some of them are obvious like fire/water/ice, but others, well there's just no way to know. The game should have a built in reference and it should always show you what elements a Pokemon has when you're battling one.

Pokémon was cool when I was 12, when Red and Blue were released. I am now 22.

The answer that can be drawn from this information: Pokemon was never cool (i repeat, never cool), since only the 12 year old who *thought* they were cool played it and, more importantly, *NOTHING* is ever cool a decade later.

Case in point: 90's Brit-pop sensation Oasis. The teenagers of today see that band as granddad music, while the teenagers of the 90's loved their 'music'.

Even if there are little pre-teen-emo-kids out there with a love for pokemon today, they are most definitely not the cool kids. Unless we adopt a relativist definition of cool, in which case the thread is purposeless. ;]

My favorite is Chatot. Just because it isn't cool doesn't mean it's not fun to play. I'm also very fond of my all-eveelution team.

For me, Pokemon was never cool. All the core games are virtually identical. The graphics and battle animations have seen little change (if any) over the years-and yet millions still buy the games! Unfortunately i'm one of them. Ahem. Theres something indefinable that makes them so addictive that you find yourself compelled to 'catch them all.' Again. Oh, and my favourite Pokemon? Charizard, I choose you!

Psh. Nostalgia blinds you. Empoleon is a giant steel penguin - how is that not awesome?

Still, the best Pokemon of all time will forever be Eevee. And it's evolutions.

Pokemon is still one of the best games out there. Suuuure they've kinda done some forehead-smashing by always getting rid of the previous 150 in place of a new 150 plus like 30 Legendaries. But I'll still buy the games, it's entertaining. Although I think gold/silver was the prime of its gaming caliber (that's right I said it).

And if Pokemon was real life, I would find it rather amusing. But it has become not cool I think on a large part of the bad media they've gotten by bad off-spin products like the cards and shows.

I liked the second generation, Gold/Silver/Crystal. It rocked my socks, and I bought Crystal off a friend for $2 to re-play for nostalgic purposes. Favourite Pokemon is probably Arcanine.
