Recently I've been playing my old copy of pokemon diamond and this had me looking at some of the other games in the franchise. But then I saw the price of $50 on every game since diamond and pearl.

I live in Australia and I'm used to high prices, but not like this. I can get newer games cheaper at pretty much any store, like farcry 3 and xcom for $30, but black and white 1 are $50 in every store. From target to eb games etc there is no exception, even when preowned.

Is this my local area fucking with me, nintendo fucking with me, retailers fucking with me, Australia fucking me or is it like this everywhere?

I think it's Nintendo fucking with you. They always seem reluctant to let their titles drop in price.

I'm also in Australia, and it's pretty much because Pokemon is so damn popular, they never feel the need to drop in price. Call of Duty is still insanely expensive (MW3 is roughly $50 and Black Ops 2 is full price practically) just because it's popular. They won't drop price here, because people still buy the shit out of them.
Oh yeah, forgot call of duty is still expensive. Skyrim is expensive as well but that's usually the collectors edition or something.

Also about a week ago I found a copy of resident evil 6 for $100 in target.

The way I've experienced it here, Nintendo is pretty terrible with dropping it's prices. Anything first party (at least for DS and 3DS) stays at ~40 euros for its lifetime. It's one of the things holding me back from getting a 3DS, I'd love to play a combination of new and older games, but even 4-5 older games will cost as much as the 3DS.

Ok you are DEFINITELY getting ripped off there. I picked up RE6 for about...23 bucks at EB (still not worth it). It's all about looking for the best deal. I'd recommend ozgameshop.com, they have great prices and it's free shipping.
Well I didn't buy it obviously. Target seems to choose their game prices at complete random because just cause 2 was a perfectly reasonable $10 and skyrim a mere $30. THat ozgame site looks good though, I might do some business with them at some point.

A quick google search showed me that Pokemon Black is around R$83,00 to R$120,00 (brazilian real, if you will) which can be converted to $40,30 to $57,57 australian dolars.
I'm quite shocked that it's actually matching with your price tag. Usually, games arrive here costing 2 to 3 times their usual international price. But to be fair, R$83 it's still fucking expensive for a game.

I got black new for around 30$ at best buy... so yeah that seems high to me :/

And a hundred bucks for Res 6 is fucking ridiculous.

Yup. Nintendo games, especially their heavy hitters like Pokemon, tend to take an absolute age to drop in price, even when they've been out for quite some time.

That's because you're looking in Target :p out of the big stores like K-mart and Big W, they seem to be the most expensive in most things.

I have a nice little anime/gaming shop in the city that I bought White 2 from about 6 months after it was released for $44. Though it seems to keep the same prices; Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity was $44 on release as well while being $69 everywhere else.

Where I live Pokemon costs around $40 new and $30 for any old games and it doesn't matter which gen. As others have said, Nintendo never drop in price, last time I checked a new copy Pokemon SS/HG have gone up in price since it was released. Actually just checking Amazon it's up to $80.

Pokemon games (in fact a lot of Nintendo games) have always been like this. Still costs about £20 for a used copy of Diamond, which just makes me scratch my head as the game is what, six years old now?

$50 bucks?

I guess it's because I live in North America...but....I think you may be getting ripped off. (However pricing can differ in regions.)
On average most Pokemon games are in the $35-40 bucks range.
$50 bucks though? Never.

It's because it's either still in high demand (for certain aspects) or people just absolutely refuse to give it away for various reasons.
I would extend this to most Nintendo games actually. Not many people tend to give away them away for a long time. If not, ever.

Yeah Pokemon and Mario games are usually the ones to not drop their price very quickly. If at all.

I still look out to get Mario Kart 7 as some point but it still sells for full retail in every store that sells it. I'm not paying that for a 2 year old game!

Depends on the game but I'm surprised it isn't MORE expensive. On Amazon they tend to at most go 5%-10% off (or a miraculous 33% for B2W2 last I checked) but if you wait too long to buy it it'll either stay the same ($39.99) or increase in price, and that's not Nintendo's fault it's just capitalism at work.

Usually Gamestop is a good place to find old, rare games at their usually standard used prices (got ZOE2 for $19.99 back when it was going for $100+ on Amazon and eBay) but I've been looking to find a copy of Soul Silver, and even they charge $44 for it used.

Yes, $50 USD for any Pokemon handheld title is outrageously high.

Even the newer installments set to be released on the 3DS this October will be retailed at $40 USD.
