What!? An MMO that doesn't reward sinking days of your life into it? Say it isn't so! The upcoming FFXIV MMORPG is apparently implementing a leveling system which limits the gaining of XP for a particular class after 8 hours. What does this mean exactly? Well, it isn't as bad as it first seems.
First off, a class is determined by the weapon (or tool) your character equips, so rest assured you're not stuck with only 8-15 hours of xp leveling per week; you are, however, limited to 8-15 hours (the last 7 of 15 being with diminishing returns) of xp leveling with a specific class.
What does this mean? Well, it means you can't spend 24+ hours of your week towards becoming a high level bowman, and can instead focus on 3+ specializations (3 x 8 hours). It's interesting to note that people with indescribable amounts of free time can at most only become a jack-of-all-trades, which I believe is Square Enix's way of making it fair for people with not a lot of time. Hardcore players will still have the benefit of of having a wider variety of skills, instead of just being 60 levels higher than another player.
My post may seem bias in favor of the system, but that's only because I felt there were a lot of misconceptions going around about the system (mostly people believing they could only play 32 hours a month, which is completely false). I'm honestly unsure of the system.
But I don't know. What do you think?
Cheers
