Recently, I've been looking at the GDC stuff and saw the new Zelda which made me happy..but sad when I noticed that I sold my DS a while ago. I had also been checking out the new DSi with the camera and cartridge quick-swap. + the SD memory card..finally. But I'm still not sure if I should get one..

So nay or yay?

Personally, I've been decided myself whether or not I should purchase a DS at all. I'm torn, because I'm very fickle with money and luxury possessions.

But in all honestly, I do not think the DSi is worth it. The audio capabilities on it are sub-par, and it has no ability to play MP3's. The camera is nice, but almost any cell phone has it nowadays, and it's nothing special. It has upgradable firmware, and a "slow" internet browser, though free. It has a slightly bigger screen, though same resolution. It's slightly longer in length, but thinner. Storage space is the only thing I see that's really any good about it.
And in the process of all its additions, it loses its GBA functionality. I think that's the biggest blow.

I'd just go with a DS Lite...The camera is useless, and you can buy little docks to put your SD cards in...But it's your choice. The DS Lite is sexier than the DSi, though...Also, you can already buy it on the American market, no waiting involved.
Your call, I suppose. =P

I have also been on the fence about buying a DSi. I didn't know about the little docks for SD cards which for me the SD card slot feature seemed pretty cool. Now I can just keep my DS lite and buy a dock for it. Thanks for the info :)

According to what I've been reading, eventually we'll be seeing a lot of games, like the new Zelda, that require the DSi, so I'd keep that in mind.

I doubt any new DS games will be coming out. It's time is up. I'm keeping mine to play older titles, but if you already sold it, I don't think rebuying it would be worth it. At least wait until E3 this June.

Wikipedia says that there will be games that will take advantage of the improved processor/RAM of the DSi that the previous DS builds do not provide, but sounds more like features that enhance the gameplay then requirements.

Quote from Wikipedia:
"Nintendo is planning to release "enhanced game cards" that can operate on the DSi and previous console versions, and will also offer exclusive features for the DSi."

The SD card slot sounds nice, and the improved RAM/processor is also a nice bonus. However, I don't see how these will improve gameplay in any future game, just make them look prettier, supposedly.

I'm happy enough with my DS lite and just got "Dark Spire" some days ago. I don't need no camera feature to enjoy gaming.

Sigh.
Please find where that quote came from before it was put on Wikipedia. I would rather see it from a actual source than a fake one.

...The weblink is provided. *sighs*, whatever.

The quote comes from #50 of the wikipedia weblink provided. Scrolling to #50 states:

Honestly, i think it's just a nastalgia factor for most of these games now... I was thinking about a DS a bit ago. Glad I waited, and realized that the DSi was the same thing, but a reason to get people to buy new systems for no real reason. I ended up going with Sony and their portable. I'd wait till E3 and see what comes of that, supposedly, awesome mess.

Do you care about GBA games? If not then get a DSi. That simple.
Yeah, but then you are overpaying for some additional RAM and potentially good games. Maybe. In the future.

Just get a normal DS/DS Lite and spend the rest on something good.

You got a PSP instead of a DS because there was no real difference between DS Lite and DSi? WTF?
Hahaha, no no no no no. I got a PSP because, having had gameboys in the past, I realized that there weren't really any *new* games that were coming out for it. I heard there would be a new DS and thought "hey, maybe i'll get better stuff, game wise. Something new etc.."
It turned out that this was not to be. It's still the same old Pokemon/advanced wars/renamed RPG that pretty much plays the same. There's only so much you can do in 2D that Nintendo will put out.

I can see how you read what you said, from my previous post. I apologize for being unclear. The PSP, with it's game lineup etc, seemed to be a step away, and up, in the direction of handheld gaming.

Good to get it clarified, lol.

The PSP looked half good to me at first, but after realizing that all of the games are already on PS2/PS3, I just said "fuck it".

At least my DS has Metroid Prime: Hunters, The World Ends With You, Contra 4 and Advance Wars. ;)[/quote]
I don't think the DS is a bad system. I just think that *to me* and the games that I've played on it over the years, don't really justify 170ish US dollars to not really get anything "new" out of it. I have a PS2, somewhere at my parents house, but I never really got a lot of playtime on it. Having the PSP for me, was a better rout, as most everything was brand new, and hell... I do like me some 3 dimensions, sometimes.

If you haven't had a Gameboy for your whole life, and enjoy the games that are coming out on the DS, please go for it. I only suggest waiting until E3 so you know if the DSi/DS choice is worth it, or if you decide you don't really want it after all.

If you don't have or care for GBA games, go for the DSi if your willing to pay for it. You can get the DSlite cheap now and if you really don't care about the DSi's features then the DSlite is a good option. DSi doesn't seem all that worth it until they really do start making DSi only games.
